Walnut Flats Campground

"Somewhat limited on designated spaces (4 spaces total, one able to accommodate groups), this was a fantastic campground. Free still (though they are proposing implementing a $16 nightly fee, a bit much in my opinion). There is vault toilets, bearproof garbage cans, pea gravel tent pads, and a picnic table and fire pit at each site. The Fall color here was fantastic, it is within a half mile walk to connect with the AT, and it was very peaceful."

"Great camping. Five camping spots and two bathrooms. Water pump has safe water for drinking. Not far from dismal falls. A must stop and see…"

"This campground is closed but me, my husband and our 2 dogs had a great picnic. We had to walk which isn't far from the gate. I loved the fireplace, fire burns great!. I wouldn't suggest coming here but if you feel froggy come take a hike up here and check it out."

"Great little free campground. Hand pump safe water. Fire pits, massive picnic tables, Pit toilet, & it didn't smell bad when I was there, July 2018. This is on the path of the Trans American Trail. I stopped here on my motorcycle trip across the country. Trent's grocery about 5 miles away."

"Beautiful and totally free! This was a great place to stop for a night on my way up to West Virginia. The campground is relatively small, but it was great. There are hole in the ground bathrooms, fire rings, and even a water pump on the right side. There weren't many picnic tables from what I saw. When I was there the back was filled with RVs so there was not much room."
