Gatewood Apartments

"We lived @Gatewood for the last 2 1/2 years, and can’t speak highly enough about the staff there running the place. From day 1 in the office, to the prompt, and speedy maintenance visits that We requested. They came in and quickly made any kind of repair that We had pop up while we were there, and it took them no time to complete and be on their way. We cannot speak highly enough about them either. Especially Ben and Oscar. They really get on the ball, as much work as they do throughout every day. They do it all with a big smile on their faces while taking care of their residents! They really know what they are doing. The girls in the office too. They made the entire process simple, and easy to understand everything. Had We not bought our first house, we would hail still be at Gatewood!"

"We stayed with Gatewood for 3 years. They were pleasant enough to work with, though maintenance was a little slow. They replaced all sorts of old stuff for us, like the AC, dishwasher, faucet, etc. The biggest problem was when we moved out. We assumed that we could move out free of charge on the last month of our contract, but missed the small change they made to the contract in the past year that said it would automatically renew on the last month without us signing it again, etc. So we were charged an extra month of rent, with additional fees for "leaving early" and no sign of our deposit."

"Property is not maintained, poor service, limited qualified workers or who cares, renovations are done poorly and not as stated, installing sliding doors without screens, exterminator doesn’t come regularly, poor communication, back of property not maintained(and it has nothing to do with the so called remodeling), picnic area not cleaned regularly, etc. I only lived here since February and until things change drastically I wouldn’t recommend it. People who have been here for years are leaving due to service and the price increase that doesn’t match the quality and service. You’ll regret it if you have any experience living somewhere else nice. I promise."

"I have lived in two separate 2 bedroom, 1 story units at Gatewood. The space itself is a good size and the layout is comfortable, you get a lot of space and being a town home style it's very nice not having anyone living above or below you. The appliances that came with my units have worked fine, except for the garbage disposal which has broken multiple times (edit: after speaking with management they are going to have a look at the unit and may replace it). The units are not glamorous, you can tell they are getting older but I do like how this apartment has good lighting already without the need to buy many lamps. The paint definitely scratches easily so be careful. I will say that management was pretty responsive to me and treated me with respect so that was a huge reason for my staying so long (~2 years). Warning: watch for pests and if you see them take action immediately or it could be out of control and the only option is to move to a different unit."

"They do well with fixing anything that breaks in a timely manor. However, we are constantly fighting mold in the bathroom and air vents which is giving us headaches. They use the cheapest paint possible to where anything you lean against it no matter how gentle you are or even touching it leaves marks so they have no choice but to repaint when you move out and then charge you for it. Coming from a neighbor that recently moved out, they still charged him for multiple things that he even took the liberty of fixing and cleaning before leaving, and instead of contacting him personally they sent the amount straight to a collection company that contacted him and threatened to put it on his credit report. It seems that they do anything to nickel and dime you to death. The appliances are all cheap and the dishwasher is almost useless for anything other than storage. The two level town home is very hard to keep at the temperature you want. The upstairs is always hotter and with the placement of the thermostat, it can be freezing downstairs and still warm upstairs causing it to constantly run. We've been having a really bad problem with spiders inside the apartment and requested pest control and after almost two months decided to contact the pest control service myself and have our apartment added to their list the next time they come out. Also the parking is torture if your building is filled or your neighbors have company on a regular basis. You may have to park three buildings down to carry your groceries. For the money that we pay each month these apartments should be a lot nicer with many less issues. After our lease is up we will be moving somewhere else and not recommending anyone to these apartments."
