"Very disappointed in this HS. With the new massive building and state of the art technology, why is it that our students are forced to learn one of two languages... A dead language whose only purpose is for those wanting to go into law of some sort, and Spanish which is basic. Where is the leg up to our students in competitive languages like French, German, Russian, Mandarin, and so forth? Why are students not able to take courses in this new high school that allow them to get a feel for what they want to do with their life outside of the basics. The school says they offer students a chance for an associates degree, but either don't offer or took away the pathways for journalism / English, communications, psychology, as well as others. I was very excited when I first learned about the new center/building and what it would mean for our children. In high school myself, we had a center called Weaver Education. Here, students could take extra courses (start school earlier each day) and there was a wide variety of choices for them. They could take a multitude of languages, TV/broadcasting, journalism, speech&debate, photography, music composition, and so many others I can't even recall them all now. It really gave the students an edge to be successful. This is what I thought was going to happen here and yet the same languages that have been around for over 20 years are being offered and classes with no educational value from 20 years ago are being offered. Where is the bar being raised in education? We can have a fancy new building, but sub-par classes being offered to them. Doesn't seem very productive does it? My child had to sign up for classes today for next year and half the pathways teachers weren't even there to advise students and when she asked about the pathway she was interested in, she was told by her teacher the school did away with it (English/journalism/communications). So, my child had to pick courses of no interest to her and the degree she wants to pursue. Her choices being classes like graphic design, Latin, culinary arts, shop, and some other useless courses that offers them what exactly? Come on HCHS, we can do better than this. Our children deserve better than this. It's time to stop doing the standard and raise the bar on education we offer our children."
