About the Business

Ridge Road Campground

Ridge Road Campground is a picturesque institution located on a scenic peninsula on J. Strom Thurmond Lake in Appling, Georgia. As one of the area's first campgrounds, it offers 63 wooded sites with water and 50-amp electrical service, as well as six primitive tent camping sites. The campground boasts stunning views of the lake and provides amenities such as toilets, showers, laundry facilities, and a dump station.

Visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities such as boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing, hiking, and picnicking around the 70,000 acre lake and its 1,000 miles of shoreline. The area is known for its abundant wildlife, including southern bald eagles, migratory waterfowl, wild turkeys, and whitetail deer.

Nearby parks and recreation areas offer additional opportunities for boating, swimming, hunting, and hiking, while nearby cities provide cultural attractions such as museums, art galleries, zoos, and restaurants. The Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters Golf Tournament, is also located nearby.

Thurmond Lake is renowned for its fishing, hunting, and water sports, with anglers targeting largemouth bass, bream, crappie, catfish, and striped bass. Hikers can explore many miles of trails, including the Lake Springs Loop and the Bartram Trail. Recreation.gov provides a convenient way to plan and reserve your outdoor adventures at Ridge Road Campground and beyond.

"First time staying at ridge road this past month and it was nice. Woke up every morning to deer everywhere. It rained the whole week but nothing we can help. The spaces are spread out and some are secluded. Very shaded. Enjoy that the showers in the bathhouse have hot water. Only issue was it was about 10:30-11pm one night and someone we had with us urgently needed to leave. On day 1 we were told if need to be let out after 10, come knock on this camper so on so fourth. You’ll be let out. The host was outside drinking and with about 10 people (so not waking her up obviously) she proceed to ask “well what’s the emergency” AS IS IT MATTERED and says “well be glad I wasn’t already in bed” VERY UNPROFESSIONAL Of you. and how dare you ask someone what their emergency is. She had the nerve to have an attitude to open the gate. Maybe give your campers a code if it’s a code lock, or make it a code lock and give campers the code. since you don’t want to be bothered at your job. Only issue with ridge road. We will be back (:"

"Stayed on site 16. Spent most of our time on a friends site that was on the water. 16 was a fine site though and had a slight water view through the trees. The bath houses were clean but not as nice as the GA state parks. Very quiet and peaceful during our stay. Boat access was great and we enjoyed the lake. Definitely will come back! Thank you to the volunteers appreciate your park."

"Another excellent campground in the CSRA. I heard a great story from Al at check in. There was a plan to close this campground and local volunteers persuaded the USACE to keep it open and let the volunteers run it. Makes for a nice atmosphere. The sites are huge the bathrooms are immaculate. And they even have a washer and dryer available. Great place!"

"One of the best places I have stayed for camping!!!! The views are beautiful. The campground is always clean. They also offer a free laundry facility. The volunteers here are amazing they are so friendly and always make sure everything is up to par! Pat and Cindy I got to meet personally and they are amazing. They are always so friendly and make sure to greet you with a smile. They always try to make sure they can help you and make sure that your stay is a pleasant one. I would definitely stay here again! The experience here is by far one of the bests I have ever had."
