Broadway Shish Kabob Cart

"Ok. Don't hate. I'm trying to make this as objective a review it can possibly be. I've been coming to this cart for maybe 20 or 25 years. I've also been going to Frankie's on Steineay and 31st Ave for years. I've LOVED the kebabs, souvlaki, etc. I always get mine with just lemon and salt. I've never had anything to complain about except the previous (younger) guy on the cart's sometimes hostile attitude. But I still got my yummy skewers. I lived in Astoria for 13 years and still drive through sometimes just to come to this cart. Sadly, the quality of the Chicken in particular has gone downhill. Not sure when it started. The chicken I had today was cold and lacked much flavor. It was also undersalted. Why is it also suddenly orange? I really hope this was today's fluke cuz I've always loved this cart and the older guys that have run it in recent years. They're super friendly and kind. This leads me to my biggest problem and why I have decided not to come here again. I was waiting to order and watched one of the older guys crumble a block of feta into the serving container with his bare hands. Although he should be wearing gloves per DOH standards and just plain common sense, it doesn't necessarily mean a kiss of death. I'd like to assume he had first washed his hands AND washed his hands after. Sadly, this man took a visibly soiled rag, wipe his dirty hands, and use the same rag to wipe the cutting board he subsequently used to cut bread with. He the. Handled my skewers and made my cash change and NEVER washed his hands. I'm not naive enough to assume perfection in cleanliness in all carts and restaurants 100% of the time. I've worked in food service most of my adult life. But the actions I witnessed today at this souvlaki cart were unacceptably dirty. Sadly, I can no longer eat here. I've always cherished this cart and value their continued success. I sincerely hope that conditions improve"

"One of the few carts I actually enjoy eating from. Great food at great prices served by great people. My go to for a Greek salad with gyro meat."

"Place is getting expensive. Gonna stop supporting this place. They've again raised the price of the Shish Kabobs by 50 cents each making each stick $3.50. Most people generally get 2 sticks so that's a $1 increase. Way too much for just 2 lousy sticks of meat with no rice or anything else. At this rate, expect them to start charging $4 for a single shish kabob stick, soon. That's ridiculous for street meat."

"They are pumping out some of the best kabobs I've had in the city. I moved from the area a year ago and travel from the Bronx often for this goodness. Any kabob with lemon sauce, BBQ sauce, and hot sauce will leave you coming back for more. The additional piece if bread on the side is useful and adds to the food experience."
