"Acupuncture is just not for pain anymore. Anyone with CKD (chronic kidney disease) should consider acupuncture as a first step in treatment. I was recently diagnosed with CKD. The routine blood tests during my regular physical exams over the last few years indicated a continued increase of my creatinine levels and a continued decrease in eGFR (both indicators of kidney function). Last time these levels were under the "normal" range. I was advised that with diet, exercise and controlling high blood pressure and diabetes, etc. the decline in kidney function could be delayed but that no medication was available that could decrease creatinine or increase eGFR or cure CKD. Concerned that dialysis was eventually in my future, I investigated acupuncture. I had previously used acupuncture for pain management with good results so figured I had nothing to lose in this situation. I found Dr. Zhao at Garden City Acupuncture, and I am so glad I did. She is a kind, compassionate doctor knowledgeable in her field who reassured me that she could help me through acupuncture but that it would not be an overnight fix. Since September 2023, I have been seeing Dr. Zhao twice a week. During that time, I have had two subsequent blood tests to check kidney function. Each time the creatinine level decreased and the eGFR increased. I am now at levels that are considered "normal". Dr. Zhao is wonderful, and the treatment is virtually painless. The treatment environment is calming and relaxing and the staff is very accommodating and great to work with. I am very happy with the improvement I have seen through my visits to Dr. Zhao and will continue to see her on a reduced schedule as my condition continues to improve. I highly recommend Dr. Zhao."
