"I don’t do reviews but this one feels important after watching the movie “without consent” (check it out!) In summary, working with New Hope was extremely overwhelming starting from orientation if I’m being honest in my self reflection! I had to report inappropriate boundaries/sexual behavior from “restraint” training and although this was my 1st and long lasting red flag, I stayed…hopeful for a great career opportunity. My relief came in the form of a different type of stress the day my “supervisor” informed me of her desire to have someone who can “protect the agency” from audits over continuing to work with me. I certainly hold no grudges and I won’t make excuses for my challenges and difficulties faced. I was one of 2 persons who made it past a few months of work post orientation as the drastic difference between theory and practice was too much for them to take. Curios, bold and ready to make a difference - I was honored by the breath of fresh air of being interviewed by a wonderful woman and even better supervisor when I initially joined the “team.” Unfortunately, once her role changed I recognize that I completely checked out of the already difficult game. I now get why people say, “people don’t leave jobs, they leave leadership!” It was too much to advocate and fight everyday with limited support. New Hope is seemingly on the road to greatness…for as great as a PRTF can be… nonetheless, I would NOT refer a child to New Hope PRTF let alone place a loved one there to say the least. If you can stand being the light in a dark environment please know that New Hope needs you. If you can’t stand to work with self proclaimed “ghetto professionals” save your time and energy. Shout out to those staff committed to caring and may the programs continue to grow so much so that successful discharges are what lead to profits vs. the other way around should that be the ugly truth…Unfortunately, at this time I no longer find it hard to believe that “they get paid for unsuccessful discharges.” If you’re promoting success, be prepared for opportunities to grow your related skills. All in all, remain a force to be reckoned with. This world of sin and the subsystems within cannot win! I think it is a crying shame that residents’ grievances are belittled behind closed doors and in the open public…I stand with the truth and nothing less and these CHILDREN are not lying about their abuse faced. The terrible truth I learned, is New Hope will protect the agency before a child any day and as long as insurance is paying they will expect you to keep residents there until they are supportive of their discharge or when they are tired of trying - then they will agree and/or recommend “unsuccessfully” discharging them back to square one if you don’t advocate for true support and accountability from the PRTF! I have now had my seemingly overdue learning experience of “unsuccessful” work and I’m bouncing back from the impact on my ego and getting back in my game of making a change for the better! Never had I ever heard of an unsuccessful discharge from an agency standpoint prior to working here but apparently this is the norm…hard to maintain hope with that framework! There is hope if you’re willing to look for it no matter the circumstance!"
"All the 5 star reviews are coming from people that work there. I was there 13 years ago and I was on new choices this place is a prison I hated it they had me heavily Medicated the restraint they use for kids are soo painful and some of the staff were having Inappropriate relationships with the kids when i was there. it was times they wouldn't even let me go down stairs to do my school work the staffs are only there to get paid and I heard them say that a couple of times it needs to be shut down"
"I stayed at New Hope from June 2022-February 2023. I was on trans 1, and trans 2 towards the end of my stay. During my stay I witnessed a lot of things that weren’t right. When I first got their staff instigated other peers into fighting and jumping other kids. They didn’t treat us like we were children but more like criminals. They didn’t try to help us but constantly punish us. They used restraints as a punishment and not a last resort to ensure safety, I was told and I quote “restraints are not suppose to be painless you feel the pain so you won’t do it again.” They never restrained properly they had extra staff put in restraints so they were not done correctly. They would twist your wrists while in restraints just to cause you pain. I’ve seen a girl get punched in the face during a restraint and that staff member receive no punishment. Staff have fought patients and received no form of punishment or warning at all. The staff bully kids on their looks and gossip about the patients with their peers or other staff. They constantly instigated fights. The higher up’s did nothing to help except show up when a restraint needed to be done. The food was disgusting, I don’t know where the funding for this place is going because it’s definitely not going to the residents care or food. I have been in one of the “new hope restraints” during my restraint they ripped my bracelet off my arms, twisted my wrists until the point they were swollen for days and I had to get a x-ray, my pants were ripped off during a restraint and Mr kertus refused to give me a sheet for over 15 minutes even though they are legally required too, and lastly they popped a blood vessel in my eye. The reviews are not lying this place isn’t safe for your children especially with that they have been through. Protect your kids DO NOT SEND THEM HERE. I also want to point out not all of my staff were bad some were amazing and my therapist was amazing. But I repeat DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE!!! They are buying fake 5 star reviews watch and see my comment get flagged for actually describing something that I witnessed here."
"I’ve been out for 6 years and still have night terrors about being stuck in this place so glad my mother figurered out how scummy this place was oh yeah showers have worms coming up from the drains and staff have broken ribs and there restraints they have grown men push on your ribs with there hips till you pass out and laugh about it. When I had my wisdom teeth removed here they tried to make me participate in gym the next day. Just so you know I went through a lot of these and seen all the positive comments are from staff and the children are the ones telling the negative sides of what the staff are hiding. YOUR KIDS AREN'T SAFE HERE. Watch my comment get flagged for telling the harsh truth I’m 22 now and still feel bad for the kids that are possibly here now."
