"This was my first time using a "professional" tax preparer and have always done my own using some of the online programs. This past year was was too complex for me so I went to seek some help. The initial meeting was pretty straightforward and I left with a list of items I needed to return to them to finalize my tax return. Well when I get my tax return I am asked to e-sign it so I do assuming all the information was correct. Boy was I wrong. I started looking through the returns (after I already signed) and luckily I have a basic understanding of taxes and noticed they used the standard deduction rather than itemizing. I brought this to their attention and was given a new return to e-sign and it was a difference of almost $3k in taxes. Had I not noticed this then I'm sure it would have gone unchecked. Luckily I caught this but someone else may have not been so fortunate if they didn't know what to look for. Bottom line if you're going to spend $550 to get your taxes done you wouldn't expect an error like this."
