Baldwin Auditorium, located at 1336 Campus Drive in Durham, North Carolina, is a historic institution on Duke University's East Campus. Designed by renowned African American architect Julian F. Abele and opened in 1927, Baldwin Auditorium recently underwent a $15 million renovation to become one of the premier small venues for classical music in the Southeast.
With a seating capacity of 685, Baldwin Auditorium features modern seating in the orchestra and wraparound balcony, as well as wheelchair seating on both levels. The classic Georgian building is constructed of Baltimore red pressed brick and Vermont marble, topped with Buckingham slate, and boasts a dome and oculus visible from the opposite end of East Campus.
Known for its excellent acoustics and intimate setting, Baldwin Auditorium is the perfect venue for showcasing artists who require little to no amplification, including classical soloists and ensembles, vocal ensembles, and small jazz ensembles. Duke Performances regularly hosts performances at Baldwin Auditorium, providing audiences with unforgettable musical experiences in a beautiful and historic setting.

"This is really a fantastic place to see a live performance. We're so very lucky that Duke University provides us so many free opportunities to come here and be entertained. There is an elevator and access for handicapped persons in the balcony. Same goes for the restrooms downstairs. Be forewarned that the seats are made for people from a different age. If you are morbidly obese you will not be able to fit into the theater seats at Baldwin. No food or drinks."

"A beautiful concert hall and auditorium with crisp and clear sound. The lighting is excellent. My only wish was that in the renovation they included a more extensive budget for more ornate decoration, especially on the wood panelings."
"Built in 1927, renovated around 2014, this is an award-winning building that is just stunning in the quality of its interior design. Really, a welcoming and comfortable feel when you go in, due to the intimate scale of the space, as well as the remarkable and skillful use of wood in the acoustic structures. Attended a classical piano recital and could hear every note in pieces with wide dynamic range while sitting in the back row of the orchestra section."
"Music hall that is just wonderful after being renovated located on Duke's east campus. Sound and acoustics are incredible. Beautiful domed building and space. Seats are smallish but comfortable enough. Relatively small making for intimatel experience but sizable enough that it feels like real music hall."
