"Fontana Dam Basin is the place from where the Dam and the reservoir start. At the basin, there is a hydroelectric facility. The facility has 3 power-generating units. Though you cannot enter the basin, you can see it from far away."
"It's so breathtaking here. I asked around and turns out if you take a different road u can actually go on the top of the Dam and drive across to the other side and there's a playground there. I have yet to test those directions but ill definitely try it out next time."
"If you get a chance to camp at the Fontana Village Resort campground at the base of the Dam, do it! It is one of the nicest spots you will find! There are only about 10 RV sites with hook ups, and another 10 tent sites. For $20 (tent) or $30 (RV), you are right on the river in a quiet (except motorcycles) campground where there is plenty of grassy space, some shade, a picnic table at each site and a bathhouse with plenty of hot water, although only one shower in the women's bathroom. RV dump station is nearby and a couple sites have permanent shelters over the table."
