Neuse Christian Academy

"As a former student of Neuse Christian Academy there is a lot to say about the school. Let me first start by saying this, it depends on your child. My review does not go for the elementary school, but for middle school and high school. There are a lot of positives and negatives about the school. I’m gonna save the positives for last because I always like ending on a good note. ACADEMICALLY: The courses that they had we’re good solid courses but it depended on the teacher on how well I did in the class. I had more than several teachers who only read from the book and didn’t engage with us a lot as far as learning went. Because of that there were a decent amount of classes that I struggled in. Some teachers there really show that they care about you as a student and your grades and others really show that they only care about their job. If you’re a kid is a more hands-on learner I wouldn’t recommend the school because they’re going to have a harder time retaining the information that they are taught. CHRISTIAN BASED: as far as Christian-based goes, this school does their best to make sure that your kid has a biblical perspective of the world. There are some positives and negatives to this. In the ways that which they tried to do this ended in more bad than it resulted in good. They spent way more time focusing on what you were allowed to wear, and what you did outside of school, and even if you did something just the slightest bit wrong you were immediately in trouble. There is no character building behind this. And because of this it had a huge impact on how I am in society today and how I am able to function in society. And not for the best of reasons either. Teaching wise they did a good job to teach us Christian based science and history and Bible class. But when it came to our actions and to life there wasn’t a whole lot of help. Basically in a dumb down way of saying academically they were good, when it came to the student itself The way they handled situations was in no way helpful to further stopping the actions from happening again. AS A WHOLE: as a hole of the school I feel like they cared more about acting like a Christian than if you were actually a Christian. I did learn a lot academically while I was there but like I said before I did struggle with a lot of classes because they weren’t understanding how to teach their students and them retain the information. If your kid has a learning issue it’s going to be a lot harder for them to succeed in this kind of environment. And unfortunately it was made very clear who the favorite students were and who the disliked students were. Unfortunately there was also quite a bit of judgment here as far as people in administration teachers and other students because it is a smaller school where everybody knows everybody. Unfortunately on top of that you will get in trouble for a lot of things that you shouldn’t get in trouble for. Stupid little things that could go with just a warning, are overdone a little bit too much. POSITIVES: Now for the positives. There were a lot of times when I really enjoyed being at this school. If there is one thing that brought everybody together it was our school spirit. Sports and exercise is highly encouraged here and found a way to make everybody feel included. (But obviously if your kid sucks a basketball they aren’t gonna make the team) there are still ways for them to be included in sports. I made some really good friends there with the people that I connected with. It’s been about three years since I’ve left that school and I’m still friends with some of these people. As far as the teachers who did care not only about their job but me and my well-being as a student, Will forever have a long lasting impression on me and the choices that I make. I handful of teachers really went out of their way to help A student if they were struggling outside of school and if they were struggling inside of school. As far as the lunches go I ate way better than I ever did when I was in a public school. Which is a huge plus and made lunches way better."

"Our children have been at Neuse for 6 years, and it has been a blessing for all of us. The administration truly puts the students’ interest in the forethought of all decisions. The faculty know each child and family. It is a close knit community that accepted us in with open arms when we joined with a 4th and 7th grader. It is a small school with a big heart and a large desire to follow Christ."

"My oldest has been at Neuse for 6 years, and my youngest for 4 years. The teachers and administrators are amazing, and they really care about their students. I love that my children are taught in a Christ centered environment. Love the family feel that you get when you walk through the doors!!"

"Wow, where do I start when it comes to reviewing this Christian Academy? I very recently had the displeasure of visiting Neuse Christian Academy. When I heard the name of the opposing school we were playing a basketball game with I was excited. Being a Christian myself I thought it would be nice to surround myself and my kids with other christians. Boy was I wrong. I was so disappointed in the behavior of the older students at the academy and of some of the faculty, staff, and parents. I say some because it would be unfair of me to say all. When I say some though, out of the crowd that was there, I would have to estimate my disappointment with at least 80%. When an establishment carries the name Christian in it the people who represent the establishment should be expected to carry themselves in a Christian like way. They should set an example for all who currently attend, all who will visit etc. The Man who did the announcing at the ballgame (and he knows who he is) had to watch a lot of WWE Wrestling TV because when he spoke I thought that I was at a wrestling match. He undoubtedly came across extremely LOUD and upbeat when he invited all to spend money at their snack bar and when he introduced their basketball players and when his team scored but when introducing our team you would have thought he went into funeral mode. I do expect and understand that each home game team will have more hoopla about their team. But this was a bit extreme. That I could overlook but when tensions are running high it is not a good idea to have a biased announcer encouraging unsportsmanlike behavior from the crowd. Enough about him because I could go on and on but I will stop. Picture this your at the end of a basketball court not directly under the goal but very close on the sideline where our player was being given the ball by the ref to throw in and immediately after given the ball many students from the Christian School surround the player trying to throw the ball in, the students arms extended clapping at the players ear and hollering at him and the REF does what 'NOTHING'. Yes nothing. And the announcer or athletic director or assistant athletic director or parents of these students do nothing but encourage it. Our coach had to call a timeout to get this young man out of this intimidating situation. If you could have seen the look on this poor young mans face. I mean these kids were only a few inches from this young man who is trying to throw the ball in. The whole game they were screaming obscenities and so forth. I say they encouraged it because nothing was said or done when it happened and after the game when it was brought to there attention they defended it (condoned it). A real Christian would not beat his fellow brother down and make him feel intimidated. It is one thing to holler and cheer for a team. I expect that but this was down right intimidation. As I am sure you can tell this was quite and evening and let me tell you many other things happened example: home team coach got a tech and was told to sit down the rest of the game but do you think he sat the entire rest of the game. NO!! And do you think the Refs did anything else about it "NO" what example does this send our youth? I want continue with examples but I want to conclude by saying this.... I didn't walk away with a good impression about Neuse Christian Academy. Be willing to listen to people who visit your academy, you don't have to agree with everything someone says but at least let them be heard. We all need to set better examples for our youth, they are our future! I pray for your academy and its leaders that they will be better than what I observed the other evening. I pray that we all become better at sportsmanship! I'm not perfect by any means and do not claim to be. I know that we as christians are sinners that is why Jesus gave his life for us. Whether you think you need forgiveness or not. I forgive you for how unwelcome you made us all feel the other evening! God Bless and always ask yourself WWJD"
