"Mr. Causey ignores calls for him to protect senior citizens from identity theft by Medicare Supplement, Part D and Advantage insurers in North Carolina. He has the authority and ability to stop the insurance providers from requiring social security numbers on applications for coverage (according to Medicare Ombudsman's office).....each year he reviews the insurers applications to be used the following year and can remove the SSN requirement. The Medicare Ombudsman's office said there is NO need for seniors to provide their SSN and it only contributes to having their identity stolen. Medicare has not used SSNs as an identifier in nearly a decade. Mr. Causey......is it true, the insurers are more important because they donate to your campaign????"

"I am pleasantly surprised by the help I got from the NC Department of Insurance. After Dr. Fonda Strickland's office (Dental Suite in Greensboro) baited and switched me to a hidden dentist in their office that was out of network, AFTER verifying my insurance, Angie B. at the NC Dept. of Insurance went to bat for me with Guardian, who had happily collected fees for me and then refused to pay even after learning about the hijinks the Dentist pulled. She contacted Guardian twice, appealing once they denied it the first time, and they folded after she was firm that I had done my due diligence. They paid. I'm forever grateful for her hard work. She even told me where to file a complaint about the dentist since that was not in her jurisdiction."

"Given incorrect information on initial contact. Was told that a form was being emailed to me. I didn’t receive the form so contacted the office ( my third call) a week later and a form was sent. At that time I asked the person answering the form if I could relay my circumstances to her since initial analyst had given me incorrect information. That person indicated that all she could do was send me the form. My overall impression is that the office is not customer friendly. As a former government employee I was disappointed with the quality of help I was given. I hope that the Commissioner stresses to his employees the need to give accurate information or refer the caller to a source where he/ she can get that information and be receptive to consumer issues. At no time was I belligerent or hostile. As I said to the last analyst I talked with it is understandable why the Office’s reviews are below average. I am not sure if the treatment received is reflective of a staffing shortage or budgetary constraints but must say in contrast, when I contacted the Department of Insurance in Kentucky, I was treated in a professional and solicitous manner ."
