Chubby's Tacos Durham

"Chubby's has been a staple in my local restaurant list for the past few years. The staff (Ian, Dom, Carol, Kim, Kelly, Jason - everyone!) is incredible - very kind, helpful, and attentive. The people who work at Chubby's are a big part of why we keep coming back. The food is good and reasonably priced, as are the house margaritas (especially on special days). That said, in the wake of recent rebranding efforts, I've noticed some changes in the food that are concerning and kind of disappointing. Specifically, I've noticed the quality of the tacos on Tuesdays is very different to that on other days of the week. The portion of filling in tacos is less, and even the tortillas seem to be different. The tortillas used on Tuesdays seem cheaper and immediately fall apart, even if the tacos are brought out just-made. Additionally, the points system was changed, and now, it's more difficult to obtain reward points for free items. I'm aware that inflation is hurting everyone, especially restaurants, but it's concerning to see a locally-owned business potentially becoming more and more profit-focused. The quality of the service and food is the reason customers return, and we notice when these things change. I hope the new corporate management recognizes that and makes improvements, rather than contuining to cut corners."

"I was shocked with how packed this place was! It’s a quick service place, so you order at the counter and then sit and eat if you want. There is also a bar that was full! There tacos were so good. We got a specialty taco they had and it’s absolutely incredible. I will say that taco was 7$ so be prepared this isn’t a cheap quick service place. However, the quality is good. The fresh salsas were also great!"

"Wish I could give Chubby’s six stars! They’re food is really good and reasonably priced, plus they have a great salsa bar. The owner is the sweetest person ever, and they are part of our local community. Also, solid rewards program. Couldn’t be happier with them! They don’t have all the options of a traditional Mexican restaurant, but their menu fits their style. Highly recommend!"

"We went to Chubbys tacos for my daughter’s birthday. We got in and found the line, it’s to the left when you walk in. We walked past the really cool murals on the wall one that read “Cubby’s Tacos” with a taco and a dog on top of a bull with a rainbow behind it. The artist put a lot of time into these. We got to the register and I ordered 3 Carne Asada tacos (non spicy) with a side of rice and refried beans. It was so good. They reminded me of street tacos like I used to get when I lived in NYC. They were so good, they were fresh and delicious I highly recommend. My daughter got the same without the side. My boyfriend got the “Chubby” Changa with Tinga chicken. It was delicious. It has a lot of cream. My daughter and I got Jarrito sodas which aren’t easy to find. They even had Mandarin, not many places carry this flavor. We also got chips and salsa which were complimentary. They had a whole salsa bar to choose from. I really liked these tacos and we will definitely be back."
