"Super authentic Shanghainese food. I was pleasantly surprised! The chef used to be a culinary teacher in Shanghai and also was the chef in Joe’s Shanghai in Flushing. As a Shanghainese girl, I highly recommend this restaurant, which reminds me of home! Plus, the owner of the restaurant is also super friendly and helpful!"

"Nice little Shanghainese restaurant right by the Grove St PATH station exit. I quite liked their sign design since it felt simple, but elegant at the same time. Came for lunch as a party of two and got the following: - Fried Cheese Rangoons 炸芝士馄饨 (4pcs) - Salt & Pepper Pork Hock 椒盐风沙猪手 - Beef Noodle Soup 红烧牛肉面 - Stir-Fried Udon with Pork - Soy Braised Chicken Leg 豉油鸡腿 Their Fried Cheese Rangoons were quite crispy, but could’ve used more filling. Felt a little bare and like a healthy version of a cheese rangoon instead although not bad. The Salt & Pepper Pork Hock was very flavorful and a bit fatty as you’d expect, but I enjoyed the taste of it. The Beef Noodle Soup was a bit light and lacked the beef taste I was expecting, but not entirely unflavorful. I do think the Chinese translation of it seemed a bit off since I couldn’t tell it was suppose to have the 红烧牛肉 taste. The Stir Fried Udon with Pork was good, but a little too oily for my typical preference. The Soy Braised Chicken Leg was too soft/kinda soggy-like for my liking for chicken. Texture kind of felt like it was marinated for a few days. Despite all the commentary, was an overall decent meal. Service was nice and quick. We ordered and everything came out almost one right after the other or together within about 20 minutes at most I think. We got there when it just opened too so I was very surprised at the speed in which the dishes came out."

"My Australian Chinese lady friend and I had been looking for some legit Chinese food and we finally found it here. Salt & Ginger has authentic Chinese - specifically Shanghainese - food. It’s delicious, cheap, and there’s tons of options. I have to emphasize that the quality is very good. We had the chicken leg, pumpkin cake, peanut noodles, pork meatballs, and soup dumplings. I like variety, so really enjoyed this. I recommend you mix and match things that you prefer and share. We’ll be back for sure."

"Ordered delivery. The braised meatballs tasted authentic and delicious. The pork hocks were lots of flavor but just a bit too salty. Both dishes go very well with white rice, which does not come with the dishes and you’ll need to order on the side. The wine braised chicken thighs were my least favorite, salty and not fresh. It would’ve been five stars if the food were not so salty, but if you like salty and rich flavors then definitely try out this restaurant"
