"The school is not very well organized. There is a lack of supervision during gym, lunch and recess. My daughter has been bullied so much that we ended up in the hospital. After changing classes she continued to get bullied coming home with brusises. Yet the princple and vice had the gull to say she could have gotten brusies anywhere. Implying my daughter was lying and accusing me to being a bad mom. Long story short, if your child doesnt hit back then dont send your kid there. They pride themselfs in so many grants, yet lack the capacity to keep my child and other childern safe. If you need further details please contact me on my twitter @faithsfury ((reason for thier high rating is that they continue to cater to the kids that hit other kids and do nothing to solve the issues)) picture below is my daughters leg after coming home from school and getting kicked by two children"
"This school is really working hard in producing excellent readers. The principal is very dedicated and everyone in the school make sure that your child is learning vey well and also take care of any problem your kid is having, not only in their classroom but also in the play yard and cafeteria. They will support you in any way possible"
"Here are my Pros/Cons for the school of PS/IS 171, Patrick Henry... Pros: ~ The teachers are always involved in their student's learning. ~ The recourses that are available to use each day in the school are excellent. ~ The main focus of the school is to make sure that each student learns at their own rate in a successful manner which is really beneficial for each kid. Cons: ~ I feel that Gym time for each class needs to be longer. (at least 1 hour) ~ The lunch could be a little bit better. (my opinion) ~ Recess should be longer so that kids have a balance of learning, but also stay active at the same time."
"My son entered this school is the first grade. He was in a catholic school prior to starting here. He was so behind in his reading level that I was scared he might be left back. The teacher quickly placed him in a program to help him develop his skills for reading. I feel like all the teachers there try their best to make sure the students get the help they need to succeed. I am very happy with his results and now he is on the right track. I am very happy with this school."
"Academically sound! Well rounded! Safe! These were the three main criteria for school choice. PS / IS 171 did not disappoint. My daughter has been attending this school for seven plus years. I must say that it has been a great experience for her. She loves her school. This speaks volume. The academics are extremely rigorous and prepares students for high school and college. Technology is infused across the curriculum. The students have access to up to date and fully functional science and computer labs, laptop carts and there is a smart board in every class. There is a multitude of online resources for both parents and students. As a parent of an aspiring vocalist, it would be remiss of me not to mention 171's music program. I have observed the growth of the music program throughout the years. This growth is evident in my daughter. She has developed her musical talent under the leadership of Mr. Durant and has been given the opportunity to participate in programs such as Solo Ensemble, NYSSMA, MS Arts Audition Boot Camp and Carnegie Hall Count Me In Program. It should be noted that 171 alumni currently attend some of the best academically advanced and arts high school in New York City. I am grateful for the vision of Mr. Pantelidis who goes above and beyond to ensure that all of his students have access to a wide variety of both in school and after school activities. Personally, my daughter has benefitted from OPUS 118 (violin), Horticultural Society, Chess in Schools, America Scores (soccer and poetry), Urban Advantage (science), Studio in School (visual arts) and Harlem RBI(softball / baseball). These partnerships have proven to be invaluable. We are almost at the end of our journey with 171. We will surely miss this great school."
