"Shalva was wonderful as usual (I had climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro a few years before to raise money for this organization), welcoming and warm. I was very happy with the Shalva coordinators, both from the States and from Israel. Most of the school leaders and chaperons of the various schools, however, were less than friendly; few would bother to introduce themselves to strangers like me. It was very hard to swallow that these people--from the States like me--believe in Am Israel. And these were school leaders who are educating our new generation. One exception: There was one sports director from a school on Long Island who was warm and welcoming. He talked to me on the first evening and whenever we ran into each other. Most of the other school leaders and students treated me as if I had killed their mothers."
