"Went on an impromptu drive from NYC as a pre-birthday brunch on the 22nd. My husband knows this has been on my list for the longest time since I read about their Chef, Chef Paolo making it as a Semifinalist for Best Chef: New York State for the 2023 James Beard Foundation Awards. I was pretty excited on a Sunday morning and they accommodated my last minute reservation on email. Appreciated that very much as the place was pretty full when we got there. No designated parking so just have to rely on street parking but not really hard to find if you're determined! :) Place was pretty small and no-frills but clean, there were 3 people who ensured good service. This was going to be our OMAD (One Meal A Day) so we ordered a lot to be able to try as much. Started off with Lumpia which was pretty good but a little salty. The Adobo Pork Belly was delicious but the Chicken Tocino was the highlight among all the dishes that day, and that's coming from someone who doesn't really order Tocino often. We also ordered Kare Kare and it was good. We also ordered food to go to reheat and enjoy during the week : Beef Tapa (good!), the Rib Sinigang (wish there were actually more soup), Pansit Bihon (delicious and used quality shrimps!) and the Shrimp Coconut Adobo (again, great quality of shrimps used as well as size and portion). Glad we were able to visit and try! :)"

"Karenderya is among the best and only Filipino spots in Rockland, and it has fair prices and delicious food. The service was pretty slow (entrees took almost an hour to come out), but the staff were friendly and they seemed pretty busy and understaffed overall. We got there around noon on a Sunday, and there were still plenty of tables, but it got busier as the day went on. We got the Lumpiang Shanghai as an appetizer which was solid and flavorful. I also got the Adobo Pork Belly Garlic Fried Rice Bowl. It costs extra for the garlic fried rice, but it’s definitely worth it— it kicked up the savory flavors to a new level. The pork belly was a little salty for my taste, but super tender, well-marinated, and full of flavor. All the bowls seemed really good, and I’d highly recommend them— my mom got the Beef Tapa Garlic Rice Bowl, and the beef was similarly delicious, tender, and well-marinated. We also got the Biko (sticky rice cake) & Turon (banana lumpia) for dessert— both of which were delicious. I especially enjoyed the biko— it was sticky with perfect hints of sweet coconut flavor. — Price (relative to peers): 4.5/5 Food: 4.5/5 Ambience: 4.5/5 Service: 4.5/5 Overall Value: 4.5/5"

"I have ate here twice now and each time was excellent. The first time we grabbed our order to go and the second time we dined in. The spot is really special with it's cozy and inviting atmosphere (beautiful wooden tables with mismatched wooden chairs and beautiful glass water bottles if you order water for your table). It's a rather small restuarant but don't let that fool you, the flavors are all umami! This place always seems to be fairly busy so please practice patience, as they are a smaller business. They are a very kind, hard working family and provided great service with fantastic recommendations. We enjoyed several items off the menu including: Lumpiang Shanghai (these mini egg rolls are divine and the spicy banana ketchup was amazing) , Mini Pork Empanadas (the empanadas melt in your mouth and the sweet chili dipping sauce was phenomenal), Fried Crispy Chicken (we got this with the garlic rice bowl and it was some of the best fried chicken and garlic rice I have ever tasted), and the Pansit Bihon (we got the shrimp pansit and it was so tasty). For dessert: Turon (3 spring rolls with fried plantains and jackfruit filling, think mini fruit pies-so good!) and Cassava Cake (almost reminiscent of flan. Creamy, custardy, and very delicious!)"
