"I have been here approximately 3 years. The techs that are responsible for inserting the needles for dialysis are sooo caring. They constantly check with me to ensure they are not causing me pain."

"NEW I am a retired RN who got her start in coronary care. My younger brother just died from inadequate medical care. Carl Eugene Wooldridge, born 9/9/1957, died 11/2/2022, 4 days after you kicked him out of CTICU & directly into The "Slummit", where he received no care. Who ever heard of going from The Best Medical unit in town straight into a room the furthest away from nurses station with no care & no treatment. Was like throwing him out of Unit into a dark closet to die, late on a Friday afternoon. First meal at "Slummit" was regular diet with sugar packets on tray. Same next 2 full days & part of 3rd day. Family was told nutrition staff not back until Monday & he would just have to eat what everyone was eating. No Diabetic low sodium diet. That first night no bi-Pap as ordered. Said CTICU didn't send mask. Nobody told patient or family van coming next day, Saturday to take to dialysis. When dialysis completed, dialysis staff wheeled patient outside on sidewalk by himself to wait transport. About an hour & a half later they realized he was still sitting there, sun going down & about 60 degrees. My brother was in tears. Alone & couldn't move himself & was shivering & nose running. He was thin, small man in short sleeve shirt. He was over 2 hrs late getting back to "Slummit" & his cold, dried dinner. A dinner that was again high sugar, carbohydrates & sodium. This was a horrible 24 hr period just out of CTICU. I do not remember which of your physicians was his heart surgeon. (Dr. Tavaf). Yes, patient high risk with multiple chronic illnesses. Did not progress well at all. Stayed in CTICU basically 9 weeks. Was left in Afib way too long before finally cardioverted. Then heart good but everything else horrible. Blood sugars crazy & kidney function almost gone, hence dialysis. Many other issues & instability. The staff, Medical & Nursing & the terrible discharge planner all knew The "Slummit" could not care for him. They even told him that he would be back soon. But in order for that to have happened it would have required staff at "Slummit" to take action when he immediately declined & was in trouble. They ignored family complaints & concerns of his rapidly deteriorating condition,, ignored Saturday, ignored, Sunday, ignored Monday, ignored Tuesday. He was gurgling as never before with fluid & couldn't get breath. Dead by next morning. Words cannot express what horrible treatment this was. An animal would have gotten more attention & someone would have gotten the animal care. Lynchburg should be embarrassed at this type of medical care or lack there of. Deborah Wooldridge Thompson, BSN, RN"

"Have been a patient of UVA Lynchburg Dialysis for 16 years. Wouldn't wish kidney failure on anyone but this center is very people friendly. Staff are knowledgeable about the care of patients in normal and emergency situations."

"If I could give TSU more stars, I would! My husband started dialysis there about 2 months ago and everyone had been WONDERFUL! We were placed downstairs in the transition unit and we were immediately welcomed and felt super comfortable! Rebecca, Carson and Karen have been super courteous and helpful through this entire experience! We are really going to miss them when we start dialysis at home!"
