"This is a well maintained Virginia Beach public park. It's free and opened from sunrise to sunset. The whole family can enjoy this space. There's a couple of picnic tables, one with a canopy. There's a couple of port-a-pottys. There is a double looped forest walking trail on site. There's limited parking just before the entrance to the golf course. There's also a kayak/canoe launching dock right on the water near the parking lot. This is an ideal lake for kayaking, canoeing, or paddleboarding; even if you are just a beginner. No motorized water crafts or swimming are permitted here. The waves are usually small, and the currents are not too strong. The fresh water lake is lined with cypress trees and isn't more than five feet deep. The park is dog friendly, but they do require a leash. Monitor the weather forecast before heading out on the water. Bring your own food and drinks. Also, don't forget sun protection. This is a fun way to connect with nature and family."
"My friend, who lives in VB, took me to this place. She knew I'd like it just as she does. She was right. It's a beautiful place! The trail was very cool but I so enjoyed the lake views. As a hobbyist photographer and bird watcher, I thoroughly enjoyed all the opportunities in capturing the best shot, this natural area showed us the day we visited."
"Really nice lake to kayak in. The parking lot is small but it doesn’t seem to usually be busy. The kayak launch is a really nice addition, especially if you have trouble getting in or out of the water - there’s a rail and bench that pulls out to assist people getting into or out of a kayak."
"It was such a beautiful experience kayaking at Stumpy Lake! We saw so much wildlife! We saw turtles sunbathing… We saw blue herons flying from tree to tree! And the golfers look to be having fun, too! This lake even has a kayak launching ramp right next to the parking area! This is definitely one of the best lakes in Virginia Beach!"
"In comparison to some of the other trails... it was just ok. The trails get very muddy and are obstructed by tree roots. It's advisable to wear good hiking boots/shoes. There's not much greenery or [intriguing] natural landscape to look at. It's an ok. Trail, but there are much better ones. Parking is limited; most of the lot is 'reserved' for the Golfers. *although I don't think most people observe that notice. The lake is nice but there aren't any access points to just walk around it or near the edges without being in the mud. They have a launch for kayaking and other small crafts."
