"Agree with previous reviews of there being 2 or 3 locations and poor signage for location and directions. I started at the kiosk, read map showing trout stream near power lines, but drove 5 miles and saw nothing except road getting smaller. Turned around without find "special regulations" trout fishing area. Re-read directions provided by Orvis and was able to find my way to another Rapidan WMA access off Quaker Run Road. Saw road signs to get me there, but nothing once I turned onto Quaker Run. Wider dirt roads than previous location but still best for high sitting vehicles and/or 4x4's. Finally found an area easily accessible to Rapidan but got too dark to venture further. Other than confusing roads, beautiful area. I might consider camping there but have to truck in plenty of potable water."
"Was a quiet couple of days camped by the Conway River! Rainy part of one but no matter the Trout we’re already wet and said come on in! Wild Browns and Native Brooks as beautiful as the environment they live in were photographed and quickly released! Nothing big in size but the beauty and wildness of the Trout and the mountains is always a blessing to behold!"
"There appears to be 3 different locations with a central location with another on to the NE and one to the SW. I did the central location and it doesn't seem to connect at all. It was a great drive with some places very narrow but loads of fun. You could likely do it in a crossover however you must be good at picking the path that wont drag you on the rock. The trail itself doesn't have many rocks except for creek crossings, and there are many rocks on the short trails to camping sites so be very cautious here with low clearance vehicles. I plan on completing the others soon It was snowing during our trip and the campsites had some wet wood already there that we started the fire with. The campsites are almost all right next the the stream making it a good relaxing time. There was a trail that we opted out of due to the snow pulling the surrounding vegetation down into the sides of the car. It was also a gated area that may have been opened for hunting. Overall great trip highly recommend. If you want to camp out here you will need to apply for the camping authorization permit within the "special licenses" found on the DWR website. Once you get this they also make you hold a license for either hunting or fishing to access this land."
"Nightmare.....directions to the area are confusing. You end up on a road that keeps climbing with absolutely no room to move over, passing homes, no trespassing signs. No clue where you are allowed or not allowed. HUGE disappointment. Was looking forward to this area after seeing photos. My driver refused to go any further."
"Never got there, road washed out by bad storm, when we could suddenly go no further, had to back almost 2 miles down very narrow, rutted road that twisted every which way. I finally got turned around only to discover several others, who had been behind me inching backward. Choose your weather carefully!"
