"Note: I am reviewing this as a WORKPLACE, I am employed here and I am not a client, so keep that in mind! My perspective is that of an employee, and my review concerns WORKING there, not receiving NCG services. I work for NCG out of the Harrisonburg office as a part-time assessor and a TDT counselor in a county middle school. NCG seemed to have the healthiest office culture when I was checking out local counseling practices, after graduating with an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I knew I wanted quality supervision for my residency, and I was hoping to work with adolescents in a school, as I enjoy that population. TDT is also a great source of hours. I ended up going with NCG because the office seemed the most functional and healthy of all the places I checked out and talked to employees of. I'm glad I made the choice, since starting work in 2018 it has been an excellent, supportive environment. There's the fairly rapid roll-over common to the mental health field, but NCG has some experienced staff who are glad to help, and supervisors are patient and capable. They also seemed to have the best compensation program vs. other offices, as there are several sorts of incentive pay you can earn, and many options for license-eligible staff to pick up extra hours throughout the work week. I love that I can always call someone for help, either another clinician, a supervisor, or our SUPER responsive site director. Makes me feel good to know I will get the support I need as I mature as a clinician. If you're looking for a residency for a few years, or a long-term career option, I would recommend the Harrisonburg office of NCG. A very healthy office culture is surprisingly rare in the mental health services field."
