"Had the fantastic and rare opportunity to climb the Old Point Comfort Lighthouse today. Sooo different from other lighthouses I’ve visited. Check out the steps! I don’t quite understand how they built them. The hourglass looking device is the LED bulb inside the Fresnel lens. Wow. You should zoom in on the B&W photo. That’s Old Point Comfort lighthouse “back in the day.” You can see Ft Monroe’s wall and cannon ports to the right. Not sure how the builders planned to miss the lighthouse if they ever had to fire from those ports. Thanks to USCG and Fort Monroe Authority staff for making lighthouse geeks euphoric."

"Absolutely loved seeing the lighthouse and the rest of Fort Monroe. I took my 8 year old, just to show her some of the local landmarks and she really enjoyed it. There's a small beach and a BEAUTIFUL walking trail. I'd recommend wearing shoes and jeans if you're taking the walking trail as there are spots with prickers and taller weeds. The Fort is in terrific condition and there is a lot to learn and enjoy for all ages, highly recommended!!"
