Reviews
"Asia Briggs is THE BEST leasing agent I’ve ever experienced! She has been very helpful and patient with me throughout the whole process. I cannot wait to move in!"
"I lived here for about one year and the reviews did not match my experience. My apartment is bigger than what you would expect for the same price. It also never had pests, roaches, etc. up to this day. There is a grocery store across the street as well as a bank next door and perlys (a great restaurant) also across the street. The one two times I had to call the office was when I got locked out of my apartment and today when I talked to the property manager. The first interaction was great and the repair person was super nice and brought me the extra key in less than 30 min. The second interaction was today and the property manager was very nice and polite. Although we had problems with the elevator they just underwent a renovation of the elevator and the first floor and it looks great. If you are trying to get the best for your buck this is a great place."
"My fiance and I lived here for two years, and everything continuously became worse the longer we lived at Sydnor Flats. When we moved in, there were stains on the carpet, the bathroom counter, and the tub. The "tiles" on the kitchen floor were not cemented down and they wouldn't stay on the floor. The towel rack was coming off of the wall, and the toilet seat wasn't attached properly to the toilet. We submitted all of this information on our "move-in inspection" paper and the only thing that got fixed at all was the towel rack. Within the first year of living at Sydnor Flats, we had about a gallon of water mysteriously drop from the air vent in the kitchen, with no explanation provided. We also experienced being locked out of the building due to the electronic key fobs not working, multiple neighbors smoking marijuana and cigarettes indoor non-stop, and urine in the stairwell. During the second year, we experienced the same problems as before, plus the addition of huge water leaks in the halls. Once, I left my apartment to find a large dog in the hallway with no owner, growling and barking at me, who had peed and pooped all over the entire floor of the hall. We were stupidly considering renewing for a third year, and when we called to do so, we found out that they were raising the cost of rent by an absurd amount, and we decided that we would not renew our lease. When we told them that we wouldn't renew, it became clear to us that they only cared about tenants who planned on giving them more money. Something was wrong with their email system that, when they "sent" emails out, they didn't actually go through. I know that it was not an issue with just my personal email, because my fiance and both of our co-signers, who had all also been "sent" the same emails, were encountering the same exact problem. They were booking tours of our apartment, using their cheap email system to notify us, and obviously we didn't actually know that these tours were scheduled. I hit my breaking point when I was walked in on by a member of the leasing office and a potential tenant, after having literally just stepped out of my shower. I called, and Rodney was nothing but EXTREMELY rude to me for having been upset about it. I expressed that I understand that people want to tour the apartment, and I'm not blaming them for their email going through. I stated that, since there was obviously some trouble with me getting the emails, if they could just call and notify me that way when they were planning on touring the apartment. Rodney told me that they were much too busy to do that, despite the fact that these tours were happening, at most, every two weeks, and they somehow had enough time to compose an email to me, and basically told me to just deal with it. Not a single person I talked to in this situation even said the word "sorry". When it came time to move out, we were charged over $100 from our security deposit for "cleaning", despite almost every surface being already stained when we moved in, and it being notated properly. At this point, I wasn't even going to argue it, because I was just exhausted with dealing with them. They split the part of the security deposit that we would be receiving back between my fiance and I, and said that they would mail the checks to "the address provided at the time of move out or your permanent address on file," with no info about when we would be receiving them. We received just my fiance's, and I assumed mine would be coming in the next couple days. A couple weeks later, mine had still not arrived, and I called them and found out that it had just been sitting in their office, because they "didn't know where to send it." You'd think that they would maybe call the person, instead of just having a check sitting around in their office? Long story short, this place is not worth the price, the management is horrendously rude, and at LEAST two of the 5-star reviews on here are from a member of management. Thanks for reviewing your own workplace as though you were customers, Rodney and Sarah!"
"Most of the reviews seem to be misleading as far as urine smell and homeless people living in the stairwells. The apartments are often walked by maintenance and the office staff. Given the part of town there aren't many homeless in the area to justify some of these reviews. The apartments are clean, yes they are dated due to being in the historic district (this adds extreme character to your home with the brick, crown molding and real wood floors) but they are maintained well. Everything from floor to ceiling is in good working order. Prices are reasonable seeing how it's so close to everything, especially all the great places to eat within walking distance. Take a tour, don't be pushed away by reviews that were devised intentionally to hurt a companies reputation."
"The two 5star ratings in these reviews are confirmed employees of Sydnor. but here is my review-Leaving my lease half way through. This place is a nightmare. Roaches and insects. Horrible internet, you cannot get your own ISP you have to use their monopolized system. If you’re a student stay away. The cheap rent is not worth it you won’t ever be able to get work down in your apartment because the WiFi is non existent. Elevator repairs are frequent and take about 1 week each time. I would say once every 2 months we have an elevator repair. Just not worth the trouble."
