"While Lanier Place is an amazing location with great apartments for a great price (and rent controlled, to boot) the management is absolutely atrocious. Carmel Apartments (the management company) is based out of California and is trying to unload all of its DC properties and it shows - they have no concern for handling maintenance and security is weak. The manager of Lanier, Shelton, does not respond to emails, ignores maintenance requests for weeks, and seems to be completely unconcerned about the bug problem in the building. Lanier is infested with bed bugs, and Shelton has done very little to treat the problem - he schedules treatments without any notice, has flat out lied to me about contacting us about scheduling, and then blames us for not having our apartment prepped for treatments. I once had to take a video of a maintenance problem that I had contacted him about several times over the course of the month and then threaten to post it on Youtube. The bed bugs (which we've had on and off for a YEAR) have pushed me over the edge. Avoid Lanier (at least until it gets new management) even if it seems like a tempting deal/location."
