"This is our family's 3rd year at Veritas Collegiate Academy #VCAchesapeake and it has been an excellent fit. When I was searching for the best private school near me, diversity was a very important part of our search. Little did I know, that down the street was the number #1 school in the entire nation for diversity (according to niche.com). I often feel like this small school is such a hidden gem. When I first stepped on campus, I knew it was going to be a fit. The school is headed by 2 incredible educators with a heart for the nations and all different types of people groups. The K's have been in education over 40 years and are both UNC-Chapel Hill grads with advanced degrees from Regent University. They could both be elite athletics coaches and love physical fitness on top of academics. I love how they emphasize developing the whole person: mind, body and soul. They are both very present on campus and are like a mom and dad to the whole school. Their own children are grads of the school and are both athletes and scholars that did very well in university. Over the years, they have advised many students and watched them succeed. My husband and I are both educators, so the kind of curriculum and the people delivering it are very important to us. We needed other adults that our child could look to and model their character after. There are other professor's children enrolled here as well. Veritas is a Christian, classical school that emphasizes great literature, critical thinking and character. We are impressed by the emphasis on scholarship and learning in a way that is a natural complement to our child's phase of development. We are excited that he could have a place to be rooted in K-12. We have been very happy with all of the excellent teachers our child has had at Veritas. He has had the privilege of being taught by William and Mary and UVA grads so far. They have been very invested in his well-being and have been wonderful at keeping the lines of communication open. What I find to be priceless about Veritas, is that my child is really known. They can cater to his strengths and weaknesses because of the small class sizes. He has ample opportunity to lead and feel like he is a vital part of this community. I am thankful that we found this school when we did. They have been a faithful partner during this crazy pandemic. They have provided a safe space for our child to consistently go to school in person. They have rolled with the punches and have been both flexible and an anchor. If you are considering private school, I invite you to look into this one. Our son never had separation anxiety here and has felt very safe. Bullying seems to be a non-issue here and the children are very loved. It is a great, nurturing environment with high standards. I hope it fits your family as well as it has mine."
