Dr. Paula Ronjon, MD

"My mother was admitted to Geisinger hospital with a hip fracture. There were multiple other red flags for multiple myeloma, so additional testing was completed. Fast forward almost two weeks. We were told she has multiple myeloma (which later we were told by one of the hospitals rotating oncologist/hematologist that it was only MGUS) and metastatic breast cancer. While visiting my mother from MA, the hospitalist on Sunday recommended that I tell the oncologist/hematologist that I would like to speak to her the next day. So Monday morning, the nurse texts Ronjon for me. The nurse notified me that Ronjon read the text, but didn’t respond. Ronjon never responded after more than 4 hours. The next day, Tuesday, the care manager called to schedule a family meeting because Ronjon refused to agree that she would not prescribe chemo during my mom’s rehab, which was preventing my mom from getting to rehab (she was at the hospital 17 days at this point). During that conversation, I learn that my mother was started on chemo 3 days earlier. My mother apparently consented to it, but she has been very confused, and when I was discussing starting chemo vs. going to rehab with my mom that Sunday , my mom didn’t even remember that she had started chemo the previous day. Also, when I read the notes in the portal, it stated that family was notified of chemo starting and was provided with information, which we weren’t. The following day, Ronjon never showed to the family meeting. During that family meeting, the hospitalist relayed what Ronjon supposedly told him. My mom wasn’t a candidate for radiation at that time. Turns out she had her first radiation treatment a couple hours later. When my mom is finally discharged from the oncology ward to rehab 25 days later, she only has a orthopedic follow-up appointment scheduled. The PET scan that needed to be done in outpatient was not scheduled, as well as an oncology follow-up appointment??? Complaint with Geisinger’s new Henry cancer center where my mom was discharged from. As a result, I called and scheduled an appointment with Ronjon since she had been seeing my mom the most, she had good reviews, and everyone kept telling us that she was the only oncologist for the hospital. Basically, she was so busy that she didn’t have time to talk to us. Because of those reasons, I decided to still give her a chance. Today, two days before my mom’s appointment I called asking if Ronjon could do a conference call during my mom’s appointment since her daughter’s don’t live locally, and I was told yes. A couple hours later, someone called and canceled my mom’s appointment explaining that Ronjon is only an Oncologist and that they are recommending that my mom see a hematologist/oncologist??? This is a complete lie when you review Ronjon’s bio. She is both and she specializes in breast cancer. If I could give Ronjon 0 stars, I would. This whole experience has been a nightmare."
