About the Business

"Java's Farm Java Ruins"

Java's Farm Java Ruins is a historical institution located in Maryland, United States, within the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) in Edgewater. Visitors can explore the remnants of the Contee Farm House, which dates back to the early 1700s. The farm was divided into Contee and Java sections, with Java Farm eventually being willed to the Smithsonian in 1962 by businessman Robert Lee Forrest. The land was established as the Chesapeake Bay Center for Field Biology and has since grown into SERC, a hub for environmental research and education.

Today, SERC offers the largest preserved land and public access site on the Chesapeake Bay's western shore. Visitors can explore the property Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The institution is a testament to the region's history and ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship.
