"J Payne was extremely ineffective as a therapist. She needs more training in general but specifically in treating trauma if she advertises herself as a "trauma-informed" therapist. ***Update based on the director's response: I do not plan to call to discuss this matter further, as my decision to remove my child from the practice is final. I was well aware of all your policies and the supposed experience your practice has, however, I will again emphasize that my child simply did not receive the quality or depth of therapy services based on their therapist's bio. In it Payne states that she is trauma informed and has experience with self-harming behaviors. I will offer an additional point of feedback to further explain to you and make clear how short Payne fell of delivering on her supposed clinical expertise: During the high conflict separation/divorce that my child was going through, Payne was consistently reporting that my child was "doing great." Months later I learned that my child had been self-injuring due to their other parent's toxic behaviors that included heavy coaching/brainwashing to turn them against me. So essentially - (a) my child did not trust Payne with their deep struggles; (b) a child-directed approach was not appropriate in this context; (c) Payne did not ever notice their self-injuring (pretty obvious cuts on their fingers); and (d) she also did not conduct a trauma assessment (despite me asking her if she would consider doing so). My child has a history of suicidal thoughts and has lived through many toxic family situations; Payne was well aware of all of this - yet she still failed to take a deeper look into my child's emotional state for the presence of trauma and any behaviors pointing to it. In short, she failed (and quite arguably refused) to support my child how she should have as a therapist who knew his family context and emotional history. This, coupled with her inflexibility around offering in-person sessions, was very unfortunately the worst pairing of conditions for my child and the complete opposite of what they needed from their therapist. I will remove my review in a few days, but as a caring parent whose child experienced the above, it is absolutely necessary for me to know that you/your practice is aware of what happened in the hopes that you will train and supervise your staff so they all provide the high quality care you profess you do."

"Dr. Elizabeth Carr volunteered her expertise in psychotherapy and as a client with Fitness Together (FT) to share her insight. She volunteered her time from her crazy schedule and provided a workshop for the FT staff of trainers and managers. In our studio, interactions with trainers and clients are important to our business and building relationships. The staff had a wonderful time sharing experiences and learning from each other with positive feedback. The role playing was a lot of fun. Personal training is about relationships and connecting with clients and after Elizabeth’s workshop the FT employees have a better understanding and value of those relationships. In addition, Elizabeth provided her professional expertise in human behavior and client's response to exercises."

"I have worked with the Kentlands Psychotherapy Team for about six years and they are incredible at what they do. The providers express genuine care for their clients and offer a supportive and welcoming environment. In particular Johanna Koenig is an excellent therapist who is dedicated to her job and her clients. I saw Johanna throughout those six years and during my treatment experience she showed me unconditional support, love and care. While maintaining a therapeutic relationship she offered me a space to be unconditionally myself and talked to me in a way that made me feel supported and understood. As a young adult it was especially important to me that I felt connected with my provider and that I could communicate with them in a way that went beyond a transactional therapeutic relationship. Johanna fulfilled this role from the first session. I have had experience with other providers and I can say that this woman CARES. In my darkest and loneliest moments she was someone I could turn to who would listen and guide me. She really has the interest of her clients at heart and wants them to succeed in everything they do in life. This is not just a job to her. I cannot recommend anyone better for invested, quality, kind and insightful care."

"I was lucky to intern at Kentlands Psychotherapy for over a year. My first impression was how kind and welcoming Dr. Carr and the rest of the staff are. They really made me feel welcome and gave me a sense of belonging. I was also really impressed with the building itself. It is very neat, clean, and its clear they take good care of it. Jill Jacobson and Megan Burleson, the two therapists who orchestrated the event, were exceptional in every way. Their compassion and authenticity were clearly evident in the way they presented the material and interacted with the participants.  I would highly recommend this practice."
