"This is not your fathers tattoo parlor nor the 1 down the ally. Fatty's is an artistic space that does tattoos. From the art work on the wall. Too the art work on your body. It is all top notch. I emailed thru the website. Fatty himself called me. We discussed what I wanted done. I was lucky to have Rafael G recommended. Rafael contacted me in a very timely manner. We arranged to meet to discus what I wanted. I took some pictures with me for this meeting. The day the art work was to happen was awesome. All the staff where nice. The space was cleaner than my house. Rafael showed me his portrayal of what I wanted. It was more than I had hoped for. From start to finish was pure customer service. Because the work was on my shoulder I was not able to really see the work till done. Upon complication. I went to the bathroom mirror. I was just stunned. His artistry captured what we discussed. But even more so. Such that I cried. Their is not a word in a Google search too describe how happy I was to have had the opportunity for Fatty's and Rafael to preform their artistry. "I went here with my daughter to get her ear pierced. When I got there, I was told that she could not be pierced without BOTH a original birth certificate AND a state or federal ID. For HER. She is 11. (Disclaimer, because I know how they will respond: This information was on the website and in the confirmation email. However, one does not go looking for random crazy rules, and so I did not see their random crazy rule in advance. That's on me.) Then they told me that this was MARYLAND LAW and they were REQUIRED to validate an ORIGINAL birth certificate AND a valid passport or state ID card. Since I am a lawyer :), as soon as we got home (with my daughter in tears), I hopped on Lexis, and wouldn't you know - that is absolutely not true. Because, duh. If they were correct, then the following would also be true. Ear piercing a minor in Maryland would be more difficult than: Taking a child overseas Registering a child for school Having an actual surgeon perform major surgery on a child Getting a child a driver’s permit and license Getting a child a hunting license All for a two minute procedure that thousands of kids each year do on their own in their bathrooms at home? Then they tried to convince me that my daughter’s pediatrician - who went through almost a decade more medical training than any technician at a tattoo shop, and emphatically does NOT require the equivalent of a federal security clearance to do piercings - was not qualified to pierce her ears. It’s one thing if they want to make their own crazy policy, which actually is a higher bar to clear than the requirements for buying a gun in most states. But don’t lie to me and tell me it’s the law. That’s just wrong."
