About the Business

Once Upon A Time Early Learning Center is a school located at 925 Henderson Avenue in Washington, Pennsylvania, United States. Our institution offers a subsidized child care program to help qualifying families pay their child care tuition, which is funded by the state and federal governments and managed by the Early Learning Resource Center (ELRC) office. We have been awarded sixteen enrollment slots for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Infant Toddler Contracted Slots Program and are currently fully enrolled in this program. In 2018, $2 million of federal funding was used to fund a pilot program serving Child Care Works eligible infants and toddlers through contracted slots. The Governor's 2019-20 budget included $15 million to expand the Infant Toddler Contracted Slots program to serve more eligible children. Our center focuses on providing high-quality pre-kindergarten services to eligible children, with a strong emphasis on building transitions from infant-toddler to pre-kindergarten classrooms.

"Wonderful place with wonderful staff. My son has been with them since he was 3 months old and is now 3. Never an issue. Great communication and I know my son is well taken care of while I'm at work."
"It was a shame that we started having issues with this childcare center after over a year of using them off and on through the school year & summer. They are definitely on the higher side as far as tuition cost, & then they will charge you a fee for almost anything you can imagine. I not only had to notify them in writing 2 weeks prior to my pick up time or schedule change, I was charged a $15 fee to move my pick up time to 5:30 or after, even though the business hours state they are open until 6pm. Make sure you also ready ALL of the paperwork you sign very carefully. They will charge you a $20 fee for a late pick up after 6pm per every half hour. They don’t state in the fee agreement that you will be assessed that fee even when you sign your child out at 6:01pm. You are charged for the 1 min or every min within that half hour you are late apparently meaning you would incur the fee after 6pm period. I physically called the center to let them know I was stuck at the light 200 ft away even. Every interaction was becoming more transactional & less about actual child care & doing right by your families that have been attending the center, or just willing to work will someone in any situation. During some of the multiple calls I made to the center due to my child not being able to attend after coming in contact with someone diagnosed with covid, they would put me on hold in the middle of the conversation if it wasn’t going their way, and I would hear other staff talking in the background or guiding who I was talking to or what I was being told on the phone. They also did not charge me the Early Learning Centers CoPay I am eligible for being a single parent , but charged me full price to hold my daughters spot for every day she was out as well even though we were following CDC guidelines & the centers policy for covid and not allowing her to attend."
"Discrimination against a child with dissabilities! This daycare kicked my seven year old daughter out of class without telling her and claiming to have sent me an email telling me their decision...I have had many problems with this daycare mainly because they have been yelling at my child, placing hands on her shoulders while raising their voice, and refusing to learn about her dissabilities. They have tried to have a conference with me, during my work hours, asking for paperwork such as an IEP for her that I do not have the information they were asking for and they were affended. They claim to not remember me telling them that she does not have these papers and when I told then she was in the process of getting them they were dismissive. I offered to print out information on her dissabilities or have her therapist explain how to treat her and was turned down or plainly not even responded to. This is very upsetting and I have spent nearly 200 dollars of my hard earned income a week to pay for daycare. This is how they treat customers. Her teacher Ms. Hineline has been very derogatory towards myself and husband many of times. I could imagine how she speaks to the children themselves. Instead of dealing with a teacher who should not be around children especially ones with dissabilities, they discard the child and do not even properly notify the parents who depend on their services. I have lost my job because of Once Upon A Time as well.Due to their sudden action and sneakness about throwing my child out of school we have had no one to watch her while we work. This daycare has taken away my lively hood and means to support my children, destroyed child friendships, and made my child feel defective, unwanted, and insecure about herself."
