"When we first moved into the community, it was like a breath of fresh air. But now I am on the opposite of the spectrum with how I view the community. I have 5 months left on my lease and I am praying for the days to speed by as fast as they can. Living around weed smokers, kids running through the hallways without parent supervision, and now mice jumping from my counter to stove ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I have complained to leasing, to corporate and have been told by Ms Brooks that they currently do not have a pest control company. DO NOT MOVE HERE. It looks amazing from the street and there's a fab shopping plaza across the street but thats not worth the headaches this property will give you."
"This is a $100,000,000 complex of 250 mixed-income apartments created to provide affordable housing in Arlington. Given the income mix of residents, some may be paying $0/month, others 40% market rate, 60% market rate, or 80% market rate. It has a variety of ethnicities living under one roof. The apartments are new since the building opened only three years ago. They are very energy-efficient; the building has solar panels on the roof, the HVAC systems are very efficient; stoves are electric. Counter-tops are granite, and you get a mobile island, also with granite counter-top. Now, there are a variety of apartment floor-plan layouts, from 1 bed, 1 bath to 3 bed, 2 bath. Some have balconies looking out over the Four Mile Run stream and bike path; others have sliding doors with railing restraint overlooking S Glebe Road, Giant Food and LA Fitness. The pros are that the building is new, the parking is underground and exclusive to residents, there is a gym included with new equipment, and there is a community room that hosts youth academic support programs with volunteer tutors, and Arlington Food Assistance Center visits once a week to distribute groceries to families in need. There are many other benefits to this apartment complex, particularly its extremely convenient location across from Giant and LA Fitness, and minutes from DCA Airport. Potomac Yard Metro Station just opened up, which is a flat walk or bike ride away. Buses, bicycles, scooters, etc are steps away. The maintenance crew has been great in the sense that maintenance issues within apartments are addressed rapidly and resolved quickly when a resident uses the maintenance request system. A few issues that the complex has that are, I believe, being worked on by the Harbor Group Management: Amazon packages--getting them in the Parcel Pending system or otherwise preventing them from being left on the mail room floor to be swiped. Stairwells tend to get used for smoking marijuana, drinking, and leaving trash. This gets cleaned up, but sometimes takes a day, two or three. There used to be more of an issue with the fire alarms going off due to children pulling alarm, or residents leaving items on stove too long and burning them. This issue seems to have dramatically lessened; hopefully it is resolved. Back to the positives, the apartment has begun to host more community events, such as litter clean-ups, socials with refreshments to introduce new staff, movie nights, etc. I hope the Harbor Group begins to organize more community-fostering events such as a Thanksgiving community meal, a way to communicate with other residents and send them Christmas notes, share notifications about furniture or other items they want to give away, etc. The apartment complex has many humble residents who nevertheless have lots of richness to share with one another, such as sharing their ethnic cuisine/cooking that could be shared in a potluck; the communication and socializing among the residents would benefit immensely from the facilitation from the management by establishing forums and events to facilitate this. The complex has lots of potential to be a more welcoming, united community to live in. The building itself is its biggest strength. The office staff does well to maintain the building, aside from the issues mentioned. Now, I hope the management takes the next steps towards cultivating more of a community of residents."
"Trying to save the next person, The apartment IS low income housing, which means you get a wide variety of people who mighhhhhhtttt not have the best behaved children that are running all through the building and stomping and screaming above you at all times of day. Will never forget walking to the elevator and there being trash everywhere in the hall and soda sprayed on the walls. My packages would also get stolen regularly. The staff also had not informed us before we signed our lease and everything that the bedroom I would be getting didn’t have a window. They really didn’t show us the apartment before we signed which I feel like is illegal. The fact that you also can only get one parking spot and not even pay for another, when there are plenty of spots in the deck below to be used is beyond me. I will give a shout out to some of the newest staff members who work there, and wish them the best of luck. Please understand that I am just hoping to safe someone from the hell that I experienced."
"After living here for about 8 months, I wish I had better things to say. I had to terminate my lease early because of how bad things were here. The upstairs neighbors were an absolute nightmare. CONSTANT BANGING on the floors that would shake the apartment and sometimes knock stuff off my walls. I would also be woken up around 1am to them running around, stomping, and jumping off of stuff. It was SO awful and loud that even with my headphones in and practically on full blast I could STILL hear the upstairs neighbors. After numerous complaints to management (even to the actual company management Harbor Group), nothing ever changed and I was desperate to leave because of them. The lobby/common areas were ALWAYS trashed because of the kids/people who sit around in those areas (huge shoutout to the cleaning staff that have to deal with that every single day). This complex is just gradually getting worse and worse by the day. The only thing good thing I could say about Apex is about Ms. Brooks. She truly is a gem and was amazing in helping me in anyway she could, even down to my last day there. She is the only good thing going for Apex and if I could give a rating based just on her attentiveness and generosity, I would have definitely given her 5 stars."
