"They are sending bills and automated messages to Medicare HMO patients and telling them they need to do their own insurance follow-up to get their claim paid."

"I recently had a mammogram. I received a letter almost 2wks later stating I needed additional scans done. I called to make this appointment and was told I needed a referral and to call my gyn. I did that. She never received any scan results or any information from Med star although it stated on the letter that results were sent to her. She had to contact Medstar and obtain the results. She sent the referral and received confirmation of the referral. I called again to make an appointment. They said they didn't receive a referral. The employee, Charlie, was rude and short with me. I told him so and he hung up on me. I have no appointment and in tears worrying about what could be wrong with my health. How horrible that this is how patients are treated. I am waiting to hear what my Dr wants to do because I refuse to go back to a place that has employees that not only don't do their jobs but simply don't care about people. Thank you Medstar Bel Air for adding to my stress."

"I did not go to the radiology department, but I needed their assistance with dropping off a sample at labcorp. I had never dropped off a sample and there was no one to assist. There was one woman worker standing at the front desk and two sitting behind, who stated that they weren’t affiliated and couldn’t help me, yet they shared the same door as the labcorp office. Thankfully a kind John’s Hopkins Doctor (who was in the waiting room) informed me that you need to check in, even if you aren’t seeing them for testing, but for a drop off. I was very dizzy from my current medical condition and needed to get back to work. The three women (working on 8/16/22 at 9:00 am) proceeded to actually laugh while looking at me trying to figure out this situation. This was extremely inappropriate and disturbing. Hopefully no one else has to experience that behavior."

"When I went for an ultrasound they told me I was responsible for $176, they did not state that this was an estimate. What I really owed was $408 which is a huge difference. When I called billing they told me there is no way that they can actually know what the patient is responsible for, that it's just an estimate. If they tell patients any number at the office they need to make them aware that it's an estimate so people can be properly prepared financially."
