One of things that kept me going back at first was the stark difference between his approach to selling the products in his store vs. the chain salons: yes, he uses products in your hair and has them available for purchase if you ask. But he doesn't try to push them on you. I appreciate that so much. I come to a salon to get my hair cut (or colored, etc), not to listen to a sales pitch."
