"Great little roadside BBQ stop. Pastrami was tender and juicy and ribs were delicious with a nice bark. Seating inside was a bit tight, but plenty of outdoor seating depending on weather. Atmosphere and decor reminds you of those Southern BBQ joints. Must try, you won’t be disappointed. Only complaint, it was a bit pricey. However, we don’t mind paying for good food."

"It's a rugged place that does one thing and one thing well: BBQ. The chairs and tables outside don't quite sit level, but that's better inside. And I'm not sure it matters either because you should not go Hammerdown BBQ looking for fine furniture. The menu is handwritten on a big board, and it has the following options: 1. Sandwiches with meat 2. A platter with meat 3. Meat by the pound 4. A few sides (shout-out to the baked beans; that was delicious and I'm pretty sure it was not vegetarian). 5. Not salad. The only green thing was green beans. I had #2: platter with meat. I chose the chopped beef and the pulled pork. I think that the chopped beef needs to be eaten fast, because I ate the beans first, and then the beef was a bit dry by that time. Also the chopped beef is, I think, intended as a vehicle for BBQ sauce. The pulled pork, however, was not dry, and it was delicious on its own (but I added a bit of BBQ sauce anyway). Recommended."

"Small BBQ joint. Limited parking and seating. Prices were not bad but portions were small. I had the chicken and it was good, tasted a lot to cumin but chicken was moist. Spare ribs were tender, a little on the dry side. Cole slaw was horrible, could not eat it. Potato salad and mashed potatoes were ok. The bar was really busy. I did not like the environment. Four teenagers serving food and talking over the food while serving. They were talking and joking around and the service was very slow and unnatentive. Not really a place I will return to."

"Always on the hunt for good BBQ, we enjoyed lunch here and it was really delicious. Pulled pork is my go-to and this sandwich did not disappoint. Great down-home ambience too."

"I’ve been to more barbecue places than I can count, this one ranks among the best. Top shelf food, service was outstanding, and it’s just a really cool place off the beaten path. Highly recommended. I had the brisket, pulled pork, slaw, potato salad, and some pickles. It’s hard not to judge a barbecue joint by brisket alone, because for the most part the chain places just don’t know how to do brisket. This place is different, the brisket was perfectly tender, and moist. No sauce needed. The pulled pork was incredible, and while no sauce was needed for that either, I really did enjoy sampling the three different sauces available. A true eastern Carolina sauce, a spicy sauce and a sweeter sauce are all self serve. The staff is super friendly, and the atmosphere is exactly what you would expect in a barbecue joint. I’ll be back for the ribs for sure, this will be a regular in my rotation."
