About the Business
Rocks State Park, located in Jarrettsville, Maryland, is a popular tourist attraction spanning 855 acres of rocky forest land in rural northern Harford County. The park is home to the iconic King and Queen Seat rock formation and Kilgore Falls, making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Visitors can enjoy picnicking in one of the three designated areas, hiking along the 3.5-mile trails, and fishing, wading, or tubing in Deer Creek. The park also offers two satellite properties, Falling Branch and Hidden Valley, which are a short drive away from the main park.
Rocks State Park was one of the first state parks in Maryland established to protect a unique natural feature. The park was acquired by the state in 1949 to preserve the King and Queen Seat, a stunning 190-foot high rock outcrop with breathtaking views of Deer Creek.
For those interested in rock climbing, the park offers climbs ranging from 8 to 115 feet, suitable for skill levels 4 to 5.12. Novice climbers are advised to seek professional training before attempting to climb the King and Queen Seat.
In addition to its natural beauty and recreational opportunities, Rocks State Park is committed to environmental conservation and sustainability. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources leads efforts to preserve and protect the state's natural resources for future generations.
Visitors can also report any fraudulent activities or abuse of state resources through the toll-free fraud hotline operated by the Maryland General Assembly's Office of Legislative Audits. Reporting such information can help eliminate fraudulent activities and safeguard state resources.

"Huge park with many different trails and a good picnic area. Great for all skill levels and gorgeous scenery all around. The King and Queen’s seat had amazing views and wasn’t too difficult to get to. Also visited Kilgore Falls which was a few miles down the road. Nice area, but the lower trail will give you the best view of the falls."
"Took a hike to the King and Queen Seat via the white trail (the long way), and it is a nice, moderate path that winds over some small hills and crosses a road at some point. I thought it was pretty well-marked. Not much in terms of views until you get to the rocky part of the trail at the top. It's gorgeous up there, and the sky opens up to a lovely valley below. The rocks can be quite slippery, and I would exercise extreme caution when getting close to the edge of the cliffs. The rest of the hikes in the park were short and not very scenic, but they would still make nice, quiet strolls through the woods if you'd like to clear your head. We didn't see the falls or visit the picnic areas, but I heard good things about them from other visitors"
"Really nice park with a short walk from the picnic area to rock formations of interest. Beautiful view. Look closely at the boulders to see graphetti from the 19th century. They took pride in their defacement back then!"
"All the hikes are great but almost all very short. Great for families and varying skill levels."
"8am. I’m going up to the K&Q rocks. Very nice hike on red and white trails. Saw sunrise over the mountains. Restroom was closed for season but it should open soon after memorial day. We also stopped at the water fall. It was beautiful."
