"Seven years ago were were in the area riding both the Allegheny Passage and the C&O Canal. Were liked the canal rides well enough the whole driving through to the Empire Trail were stopped for a short ride. Were rode south out of Williamsport for about ten miles. Very nice, very scenic only a few wet spots. The surface of crushed gravel was fairly smooth not paving smooth but good enough. The were some places along the trail that had some really large nice trees. Got to see a couple of locks and lock keepers houses. All and all a great ride no matter on what section of the canal you ride."
"Not Happy to come home and see what was done to the Aqueduct . They mess that up for the locals. There no way to cross over from where all the locals are use to crossing. REALLY MESSED THAT UP ! Ashame on you"
"We have been here before and enjoyed the walk along the C & O Canal Towpath. It is free to enter and walk around the canal which is nice. Their Visitor’s Center is in the Cushwa’s Coal Brick building. There was some Park Rangers inside that we talked with and got some more information on the park. I was also able to get my National Parks Passport stamp(s) there. There are 3 other plaques near the road entrance that provide an overview of the canal and maps/history of Williamsport. There is another building on your right and the plaques provide a good history of the canal and Williamsport during that time. You can take a walk on the C&O Canal National Historic Park Towpath on either side thanks to a walk bridge. They fixed up the waterway bridge since we were here last and looks like it is ready for a boat to come through. It is a great place for a quick hike along the C&O with beautiful scenery all around. We even saw some bikers trekking along the path. It does get muddy however after it rains, so be weary of that. You can catch the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail as well. If you have interests in the Battle of Gettysburg, Williamsport was a part of that campaign. We saw plenty of families out fishing near the canal. If you keep your eyes out, you will see a few turtles popping their heads up."
"Great, relatively short stop (only roughly 3 miles off of Interstate 81 in either direction) for a break during long road trips. Perfect for dogs and excellent lunch spot-picnic tables located across the bridge. As well as some interesting history facts and photo ops. (Can get a bit muggy and buggy when dreary outside, so maybe pack the bug spray just in case!)"
"Wow absolutely magnificent! We visited here from New Jersey and cant wait to ride more of the trail. It is absolutely gorgeous tree lined, along the river, very well maintained. A beautiful historic towpath converted to bike trails. 185 miles long. We rode the Williamsport, Maryland area. Plenty of parking, moderate, comfortable ride. Friendly people along the way"
