"Initially, I had a very high opinion of this trail when I first wrote this review 2 years ago. I don't know whether I have become less tolerant of the speed bumps or if they have actually gotten worse. The trail is mostly paved and if you ride from Emlenton to Franklin you will have a ride that is mostly remote. There are some homes and camps along the way, but even when you encounter them it's still a very rural setting. I love this about this trail, but there are some sections, and if I remember correctly, they are mostly on the Emlenton side of the tunnels where the freeze and thaw of the pavement has caused the surface to become very rippled. Some of them could be enough to catapult you off the bike if you're caught unaware, but they are always enough to be aggravating. Pavement is a nice selling point for cyclists, but if it's not maintained, it might as well be gravel."

"Biked from Frankling to Oil City early morning. Beautiful, peaceful trail. Being from the city and the trail being in the Pennsylvania's Allegheny I was somewhat concerned about bears, but as I biked I seemed to frequently meet with a morning walker or biker which made things so much better. Once you get to Oil City, points of interest and history are many."
