"Didn’t have a super great experience here. I live in town and came here on the referral of some of my neighbors, as I needed to have a new bumper painted for my BMW. Specifically, I had been rear ended a few months prior and due to work obligations, had opted to order an OEM bumper to install myself at a later date. I’m a technician by trade and typically perform all work on my vehicle myself and have plenty of experience disassembling and reassembling vehicles. Obviously I’m not a painter, but I figured getting a bumper painted on its own wouldn’t be much of a stretch, so I went to the best word of mouth joint in town. Unfortunately the experience wasn’t pleasant. Upon request, the short gentlemen with glasses came to assess my car when I arrived. I told him what I wanted and had the bumper with me. He looked at me like I had three heads and began giving me excuses as to why he wouldn’t do it, all in an exceedingly condescending manner: Doesn’t work with other peoples parts; I can’t install it myself; it’s not OEM; I don’t have the so-called “kit” to install it myself (one that is only necessary might I add, if your bumper has been destroyed to the point that there is damage to the plastic pieces that hold the bumper cover to the frame itself, which mine is not, as it is still intact. My bumper damage is largely cosmetic and replacing PDC sensors is not difficult whatsoever); The bumper was shipped from Taiwan, etc. Not what I asked. Money talks, and all I wanted was a price. Paint the bumper, what’s the big deal? After giving me excuses, I say fine, repair the bumper that’s on the car already. Guy then proceeds to give me a clearly overpriced estimate at $900 for repair work, as though he was secretly hoping I’d say I couldn’t do it. Instead I say cool, let’s do it. He takes my information, copies my registration, says he’ll call me. Also made a rather uncouth remark as I was exiting his building, but I digress. It’s been about a week and a half now, still no call, no voicemail, nothing. If I wasn’t completely certain, I’d insist I was being discriminated against. Not in recent memory have I dealt with anyone so adamantly bent on refusing me service, as well as talking to me in a manor as though it’s so difficult to grasp the concept of body work, or at the most basic level, screwing plastic into other plastic. Again, I’m not a painter, but when one is able to rewire a cars’ ECU or take an engine apart for fun, listening to a grumpy old dude talk like installing a bumper is rocket science, or as if it is such a difficult task and literally fighting with me not to take my money, is truly bewildering. Your job isn’t to worry about an install, it is simply to provide a service which is painting, beyond that service is none of your concern. Take the money, paint the bumper or do the repair, simple. TL;DR: Grumpy old man refused to paint the bumper I purchased and never contacted me about repairing my vehicle. Perhaps you don’t like black people? Inconclusive . As an aside, I ended up installing and wrapping the new bumper I purchased in a matching color vinyl for $150. Sold the damaged bumper for $500. Also, MAACO quoted that same repair job at $400 prior to me wrapping the vehicle, so there’s some food for thought. Other local body shops quoted an average of $500 for the same repair and slightly less to paint the bumper on its own. Update 4/5: Photos showing that I was lied to regarding needing a kit and new clips to put my bumper on, when in fact I was able to reuse the ones already on the car. Bumper install is one of the EASIEST things to do. Further, reattaching the pdc sensors to the new bumper only required epoxy. So once more I’ll say, what was the big deal about painting a bumper for me???"
