"Red Oak and Kent's towing nothing but vultures. Was one minute late to remove my car, and was at the car before it was hooked up and still towed it. $465 dollars. Hope you sleep good"
"I initially posted a 4 star review after living here for about a month. However after a year and a half, my review needs to be updated. I live in a basement level apartment where the damaged foundation leaks and pours water into my apartment every time it rains. Despite multiple promises of “this time the repair will work because we’re going to dig down and seal it,” the problem continues. It’s been over a year and a half of flooding every time it rains. Despite new drains that were supposed to fix the problem. And because the problem has never actually been fixed (never dug deep enough, nor sealed as promised), they have to put up a sheet of plastic to divert water away from the foundation. And that plastic sheeting keeps getting taken down because the owner tells them to because it looks bad. So it gets taken down, and my apartment floods again. I now have mold and mildew on almost all textiles, furniture, carpet, walls and hard floors, despite constant cleaning and fans running. Most of my property is a loss. Antiques, rotting wood furniture, mattress, couch, throw rugs, irreplaceable keepsakes… all damaged. I’ve had to empty my bedroom closet and pay to have everything cleaned multiple times because the laundry room here is disgusting and makes your laundry smell worse than when you started. And on top of it all, my cats and family have even developed breathing problems. The Red Oak idea of a solution is to give me an industrial dehumidifier. It works well. But doubles my electric bill, spews a nasty smell everywhere because it’s never cleaned, and raises the temperature in the apartment to nearly 100° F. And since it is loud enough that it sounds like a car running in my bedroom, and I work remotely, not much work or sleep can happen. No, it doesn’t have to run 24/7, but it does need to be on for a significant part of the day to get things dried out. Obviously, that limits the amount of work and sleep I can get in, especially if it’s nearly 100° F. Not a good quality of life. The worst part about all of this? Renter’s insurance doesn’t cover water and mold/mildew damage due to ongoing leaking from foundations or walls. That would be covered under flood insurance. However, I couldn’t get a flood policy due to this address having “known issues” according to insurance companies I spoke to. So I’m out thousands of dollars in personal property, have lived in a miserable environment since shortly after I moved here, and I’m constantly stressed out. My cats, my family and myself are sick frequently. And I worry about retaliation in the form of lease non-renewal because I didn’t pay up and shut up. Due to a walking disability of a family member who lives here, and the lack of accessible apartments in Milford, we can’t even move. We are stuck and at the mercy of Red Oak. As far as the building itself, the environment here is private and mostly okay. Most neighbors are quiet, respectful, and sympathetic. My rent has always been paid on time, despite feeling like I’m paying to be taken advantage of and given the run around. It turns out that my specific apartment has been known as “the swamp” by other long term tenants for many years. Because the leaking and flooding problem has gone on since long before I moved here. I will say that the maintenance staff is great. Friendly and respectful, and they always try to help. However when the orders come down from the top, just know that Red Oak does not have its tenants in mind except as a source of money. * edited to add that three weeks later, there has been no response from Red Oak. It’s now been 1 year and 7 months of flooding into my apartment when it rains. Another new issue is that apparently the roaches in other apartments have made it to the hallways. I’ve now seen them crawl in under the crack under the hall door. Red Oak will only treat the apartment who reports them, and not the whole building. This means that once the reporting apartment is treated, since there’s still an issue in another apartment where they’re coming from, they will still come back."
"New tenant here. Living here has been this far very pleasant, and it was thanks to the help we received from Tressa Clifton; she was very helpful and answered my many questions and concerns about the apartment before we signed the lease. She even let me come by and take measurements and inquired about things I was unsure of well before signing the lease. I was very pleased with the personal service she provided both before and after moving in. As for the Red Oak property itself, it is a very decent place to live, in a safe neighborhood and it's conveniently located near many restaurants/businesses, right off route 101a and close to route 101. As with any place you go there were some things I disliked but again, my roommate and myself are very happy to be here and Tressa helped us out way more than expected. To the Red Oak management: she deserves a raise ;)"
"Lived there for a year, and couldn’t be more happy when it came to move out day. The people in the leasing office were very nice during our stay, however when it came to the actual apartment, it was not nice. Within the first month of moving in, we had to move everything out of our kitchen and bathroom because we had cockroaches. The walls are poorly fixed (you can see where the applied mud under the paint and just left it). Our porch was rotted in some spots. The lining in our bathtub chipped off, so we had maintenance come and fix it, only to chip again a week later. We were told they would be back to fix it and never came. Multiple people do not clean up after their dog, especially in the dog park. Another thing I noticed is that there were dog breeds living there, that were on the banned list. I found this frustrating as we had to have my mixed breed live with my parents because they would not allow him to live at the apartment with us because of the breeds he had in him. We did meet some very nice neighbours, but other neighbours were very loud, even during quiet hours and kids constantly ran and screamed up and down the halls. The parking was also an issue. No matter how many times the office sent out messages saying they are watching the parking lot and checking stickers, they never did because we would constantly come home at night with multiple cars that should not have been parked in our lot, causing us to park even farther from our entrance. Ridiculous rent price for just a one bedroom apartment. So again, overall the office folks were very nice however we would not recommend living there to those we know. Hopefully others have better experiences than we did."
"I've been living here for a week now and so far I really enjoy it! Jamie was such a pleasure to work with and she was great at answering all of our questions. The neighbors are quiet and were very helpful on moving day (moving their cars for our U-Haul). Our apartment is mostly up to date and the bedrooms are a good size. The one negative I have found so far is that I feel the wall where the sliding door is isn't very well insulated. I can feel a draft coming in. But overall, my family and I are very happy here so far!"
