"Two years ago, I pulled my left hamstring then soon after the left calf, too, so badly before my 4th Marathon, Rock 'n' Roll DC that was held in March. It was only two and a half week or so until the race. Tried everything I could think of, icing, compression socks, putting my leg on a pillow, foam rolling, massaging, yoga, stretching, warm bath... but no avail. The problem was not just the pains but so stubborn tightness that threw my running form totally off the balance and started causing tightness and pains in the other leg, too. (I didn't even think about going to a doctor because they'd just give me some pain killers and tell me not to run.)
