"For the life of me I can’t figure out how Crystal Lake got its name… What a treasure to have in the neighborhood. It’s just such a peaceful oasis (or it’s a happening place - depends on the temperature and time). But it is really a wonderful resource whether you (or it) are reflecting or not."

"Note Enticing plastic coated literature with QR-codes placed on trees and benches in usually quiet cove this time of year. The lively language seeking to recruit local voters, may be incomplete at best, inaccurate at worst— to oppose thoughtful plan supported by respected local conservation non-profit."

"Shallow and often with a foul odor, the Levingston Cove side of Crystal Lake is probably the least gross water entrance. The Newton police often look the other way, but are equally as likely to confront trespassers if someone has called in a noise complaint or something similar. A good place for watching the natural residents of the pond, there are multiple families of geese & turtles, yet few fish. The lake has had many names and nicknames over the years, the least flattering of which may be "polio pond." A floating raft with a filter runs by the roped swimming area during the summer season, open only to paying Newton residents. Parking is limited, and the bathhouse lot is usually full early on a hot weekend, but there is street parking nearby. A lovely place for a stroll, there is a sidewalk around most of the lake, most of it shaded by neighborhood trees. The area could definitely use some trash bins since folks tend to forget to carry their garbage with them on busy weekends. Also, there is also a strong fishy stench from shore fishermen, and dead or body parts of dead fish can frequently be seen along the shore."
