We have an old camp in Maine and it had a very old and unsafe wood stove. We wanted to replace it with Gas as we had gas already running in the house for the kitchen. Further, we had a specific look in mind and Kory (and his team) were able to show us different models of gas inserts that incorporated all the features were were wanting. His team came in, removed our old unsafe stove, put in the gas insert and hooked up the gas line for us. In fact, they were also able to help us keep our existing Chimney cap which had been custom made previously. The whole process was clean, neat and efficient. We couldn't be more pleased and have had numerous compliments on the insert as well as the installation. "I cannot say enough about Kory and the entire team at Alternative Heat. After a lot of comparative research, I decided on Alternative Heat based on the fact that they were a “one stop shop” and could handle all of the aspects of installing a gas insert and surrounding stone fireplace at my home in Casco. They were professional and attentive through every step of the process from the initial consultations to my many follow-up questions and decisions. Kory was a hands-on contractor and had things rolling immediately once I approved the design and purchase. From the building of the frame to the gas and electrical work to the installation of the gas insert he was communicative, on-time and always left a tidy worksite. He subcontracted with a stone mason and had him scheduled on the calendar well in advance of when we were ready for him assuring a slot in his busy schedule. He recommended a local artisan to craft a mantel, assisted in my stone decisions and helped me order the bracket for the hanging TV as well as installing it. After the mason had completed the stonework, Kory came back to check on the work, touch up any paint on the fireplace and once again, answer some questions we now had on the fireplace! I am thoroughly enjoying my new fireplace and would highly recommend Kory and Alternative Heat for their extreme professionalism and expert workmanship"

"Alternative Heat Source is an amazing, family-run business ready to help you with all of your fireplace questions! I recently moved into a house with a beautiful open fireplace. While a delight to watch, it was very inefficient for heating — I felt like I was throwing a log in every few minutes that did little to warm the room. I went to Alternative Heat Source to see what sort of options were available. Carl helped me identify a great option: putting an efficient wood stove partially inside the existing fireplace. Kory came out and walked me through all of the details of what modifications would need to be made to the existing fireplace for the stove to fit and to make sure it was up to code. To bring the new installation up to code, we needed to have the hearth extended in front of the new stove. Kory measured the granite template — which was really quite detailed — and worked with the granite vendor to make the process seamless. The whole installation was incredibly well run and I couldn't recommend Alternative Heat Source enough! Now, instead of a fire place that did little to warm the room, I have a great stove that only requires a couple of logs every few hours that adds constant heat to the main floor of the house."
