Located in Plymouth, Massachusetts, the Lyman Reserve is a picturesque park and tourist attraction that offers visitors the opportunity to explore winding trails that lead from cranberry bogs and woods to a sandy beach at Buttermilk Bay. The reserve is home to the last remaining native sea-run brook trout fisheries in the eastern United States, with Red Brook flowing from White Island Pond to Buttermilk Bay.
Visitors can enjoy catch-and-release fishing along the stream, as well as hiking trails that wind through freshwater wetlands, pine barrens, and a sandy beach. The one-and-a-half-mile loop trail provides a scenic journey through the reserve, with views of Buttermilk Bay and the Cape Cod Canal vertical lift railroad bridge.
For those interested in history, Red Brook has been used by humans for nearly two millennia, with archaeological studies indicating it was an important encampment for the Wampanoag people 1,800 years ago. The area offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural significance, making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike.
Visitors can access the Lyman Reserve via Head of the Bay Road and Red Brook Road in Bourne, Plymouth, and Wareham, Massachusetts. The Trustees, who manage the reserve, are dedicated to protecting ecologically significant environments and promoting public policies that support conservation efforts. With over 27,000 acres under management, The Trustees work to preserve Massachusetts' most special places for future generations to enjoy.

Reviews
"Beautiful place, trails leading in many directions. Easy hiking."
"Easy walking trails. Pine barren habitat, Red Brook, and pine forest. Links to Wareham Conservation Property."
"Dogs allowed on leash, beautiful well maintained trails. To get to the trail along the shoreline, you need to cross the street. There is a crosswalk but people do tend to fly down the road. We found a tick on my dog so make sure you're prepared with bug spray!"
"Absolutely beautiful place to visit and a really fun spot to bring your dog for a walk. Kids will love coming here during low tide to look at the muscles in the water."
"Trails are short and the highways too loud but that aside this is a nice place to spend some time...."
