Joyce Playground

Joyce Playground, located at 80 Union Street in Boston, Massachusetts, is a vibrant and well-maintained park that is part of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department. With over 2,300 acres of park land under our care, we strive to create clean, green, safe, and accessible open spaces for the community to enjoy.

Our department oversees a wide range of recreational areas, including 217 City parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, golf courses, squares, fountains, game courts, and historic cemeteries. We also manage urban wilds, High School Athletic Fields, and a vast number of trees throughout the city, including the iconic Emerald Necklace.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Tree Removal and Parks and Recreation Commission hearings are currently being held online. We are constantly working to adapt to ensure the safety and well-being of our visitors and staff.

One of the highlights of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department is the beloved Boston Swan Boats, which will be opening for the 2024 season at the Boston Public Garden lagoon. This iconic attraction is a must-visit for both locals and tourists alike.

With a network of parks, parkways, and waterways spanning over 1,100 acres, Joyce Playground and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department offer endless opportunities for outdoor recreation and relaxation. Our commitment to preserving green spaces and historic sites, including three active cemeteries and burying grounds, ensures that Boston remains a beautiful and inviting place for all to enjoy.
