"I can speak for Rays character only as I did not retain him for his services that he tried to sell my company on when we went to do trim work at his house. He was insistent that our website was done poorly and tried to convince us to hire him in exchange for work around his house. First, he tried to get us to do HVAC work for free prior to doing custom carpentry. We thought this was odd because that is not something we specialize in and it made us question whether or not he ever intended to hire or pay us. We were midway through the project and he started to say some thing that made us suspicious. He was just overly dramatized in everything he said and it was almost if he was setting the stage to tell us not to come back. We should have seen it coming earlier, but he told us not to come back and only ended up paying us 30% of the total project cost. He continued to add things and change the scope of the project throughout which tells me that he liked our work and he was just trying to squeeze in as much free work as possible. He then requested we return the deposit he had paid us initially as he said it would cost more than he paid us to fix the mistakes we had made. He is a con artist. Once we refused to return his money he stopped answering our calls and was holding our tools hostage. Looking back it’s odd to me that he had half finished projects all throughout his house. There was still staging up, tools everywhere. I can confidently assume we are not the first carpenter he has scammed."
