Brigadoon Boarding Kennels

"People might find this review partially bias since I work at Brigadoon Kennel but I thought I should still share my true opinions regarding Brigadoon. As someone who loves dogs I can understand why picking a kennel to take care of your dog the way you would while you are gone can be nerve-wracking. Not knowing people’s true intentions or capabilities regarding your pet’s happiness is scary and overwhelming and that’s why Brigadoon is seriously for you. I started working for Spiro Mallio as a junior in highschool and immediately found a job that I enjoyed going to for the first time. I call it a job but it’s more like therapy. Almost everyday for a few months I worked with and learned from Spiro. He taught me certain things to do and not do that are crucial to a dogs happiness while being in an environment that isn’t there home. He made sure I was aware of every aspect regarding the emotional and physical stress put on a dog while being boarded and how to avoid and reduce these factors. The amount of time Spiro put into each individual dog throughout the entire day was impressive to say the least. He went above and beyond for the success of his business and he made sure to pass it on to someone who was just as willing as he was. Spiros nephew Stavros took over Brigadoon this past summer and it’s basically just a younger version of Spiro. After only having worked with Stavro for about 7 months I consider him and his family like my own. The Mallios family are some of the most genuine, good-hearted, funniest people you will ever meet. Stavro, his wife Beth, and three daughters treat the dogs like their own: always checking on them: cuddling/playing with them and making sure at all hours of the day they have what they need to be comfortable during their stay. The beauty of it all is that the dogs are almost never left alone at the kennel given that their house is connected. Stavros schedule is practically ran by your dog’s needs and he doesn’t take that responsibility lightly. Nothing is more important to him than his family and the well-being of all animals in his care including his own! I appreciate being able to share my love and genuine enjoyment while taking care of all pups with the Mallios family. I can honestly say I don’t believe any work related experience will ever top working in such a welcoming, homely, and caring environment provided at Brigadoon Boarding Kennel *all photos were taken during my shifts at work and give insight to not even a fraction of the time myself and the rest of the Mallios family spend inside/outside with all the animals under Brigadoons care!!!! "* NOT DOG REACTIVE/AGGRESSIVE FRIENDLY* Negative experience- my normal kennel Elja’s was full who is absolutely amazing with my dog and they adore her there, they have a great staff. So I called this place to see if I could get my dog in over the busy Christmas time. *I called and told them on phone the dates I needed and that my dog is dog aggressive and asked if they could accommodate that and they said yes, they can.* Steven was very condescending. As soon as I brought her in he had a very negative attitude about the dates how it is busy and her dog aggression. I work with dogs, I know dog temperments and TOTALLY understand if boarding wouldn’t work out due to this. The fact is I made them aware of her temperament and the dates over the phone and then when I got there they made it seem like I shouldn’t even be trying to board her at that time. ( when she does very well in the kennel when she has gone over Christmas/ other times). My dog then had an accident on floor and I said I’m sorry and he goes” oh this just keeps getting better” so I left as I did not feel comfortable bringing my dog there at this point( and he was in back for awhile). He then came out and asked me if that was it, I responded yes did you need anything else. He then tried to make me out as a liar asking why my normal kennel wouldn’t take her and that she’s a huge issue in a very condescending way. When I had already told him- no they absolutely love her they are just full the dates I need. I said if you really want to you can call them. ( Obviously another dog boarding place wouldn’t want to call another but he was acting like they didn’t want me back there or something when that is far from the truth) but his attitude towards this was aweful he goes pffff ya no not doing that. Overall very negative experience for us. I want to make this known for individuals who have dogs that are not friendly with other dogs who are looking for reliable boarding, this is not it!"

"Our dog doesn’t get along with other dogs and some people but loves boarding here and the staff! They keep her separate and she always comes back super at ease. Love Brigadoon!"

"My dogs have always loved it at Brigadoon. They’ve been there both for boarding and for daycare. They come home tired from playing all day and I never worry when we are on vacation- the care is outstanding!"
