The organization set up a permanent field office on the island to support conservation efforts and manage over 2,000 acres of wildlife habitat. The Block Island Program also offers hands-on discovery programs and supports scientific research in the Great Salt Pond.
Visitors to the Hodge Family Wildlife Preserve can enjoy guided nature programs throughout the year, exploring the island's diverse landscapes from grasslands to bluffs. The Greenway Trails of Block Island offer 28 miles of walking paths, with a full-color map available for purchase at various locations on the island.
To help protect this special place, visitors are encouraged to explore the trails on foot, avoid biking on them, respect private property, take precautions against Lyme disease, and keep dogs leashed. By following these guidelines and leaving only footprints, visitors can help preserve the natural character of Block Island for future generations.
