Reviews
"This is a long review but it's important to relate the full story. Over the years, we've taken several animals, both dogs and cats to Dr. Saxon and have had reasonably good luck. However, the techs were always a bit condescending and abrupt. I always just sort of wrote it off as them having a rough day, etc. In March of 2023, one of our cats was diagnosed with diabetes by Dr. Saxon. This requires several months of glucose testing and insulin adjustments. Things were going OK and I got a call at the end of October after having a glucose level check performed and the tech told me that our cats glucose levels were low and that might mean that his diabetes was going into remission. She told me to reduce his insulin injections from 8 units 2x/ day to 4 units 2x/day and to come in in 3 weeks. I specifically asked, that's November 17th, right? She confirmed and said, "Yup, we'll see you then." and we got off the phone. On the 16th, I called the office because I wasn't sure of the time of the appointment on the 17th. When the tech (Ashley, I believe is her name) answered the phone and I asked about what time to come in, she launched into a vicious tirade about how I had no appointment and that no one told me that I did and that there was NO WAY that anyone told me to go to 4 units from 8 units and that I was wrong on all counts. She told me, "I'm going to go get the chart and see what was really said." A moment later she came back on the phone and, somewhat humbled said, "So it was me that you spoke with and I did tell you to go down to 4 units and that you needed to bring him in for a recheck in 3 weeks, which would be the 17th." When I asked her why she said all those mean and incorrect things to me, she got even more rude and insisted that I was wrong and she was right, even though she JUST verified with HER notes that everything I said was completely accurate. I kept trying to de-escalate the situation and just get a time to bring my cat in and she INSISTED on continuing to argue with me. When she finally wore herself out, she said, "OK, our next available appointment is on the 22nd, do you want a reminder call this time?" Disheartened and just wanting to end the abusive call, I agreed and we got off the phone. I made other arrangements with another vet with whom we have a good relationship and my cat is now doing better by leaps and bounds. While Dr. Saxon's heart may be in the right place, her staff is rude, argumentative and just downright mean. I thought that it might have been a fluke, but it's clear, given the other reviews here that this has been going on for some time and that Dr. Saxon doesn't care to do anything about the way her patients are treated by her staff. No wonder there are never any cars in the lot and the other vets offices are so busy."
"Update: After 2 months of treatment at her new vet, my dog no longer meets criteria for kidney failure and is thriving. This is truly more evidence, in my opinion, of the lack of appropriate treatment received at this office. This review is lengthy, however I wanted to detail my experience to the best of my ability: I initially had my dog seen here in February after she began to experience severe itching for the first time in her 14 yrs, she was diagnosed with allergies after an observational exam without any labs or tests completed, she was prescribed Apoquel 5.4 mg (1/2 tab BID). I informed the tech when picking up her refill that the medication did not appear to be working at all - I was advised to keep her on the same dose and add Benadryl prn. I picked up a refill in April and noticed that I was given the highest dosing in error that could have caused medical complications with my already ill dog - I am thankful I noticed before administering this med to her. When picking up the correct prescription a few days later, I informed the staff that the medication was not working and I still see no improvement after 2 months, I was told to continue on the med and again add Benadryl prn if needed - I was told "there isn't much else we can do." I was never offered a discussion with the vet and it appeared this advice was coming from the tech. I felt dismissed during every subsequent interaction and that my concerns were not taken seriously. I decided to get a second opinion: I was informed my dog was kept on a loading dose of Apoquel for the entirety of these 4 months, the dosing should have been decreased after 2 wks, the vet was very surprised that she would be kept on such a high dose due to potential side effects and her age. This new vet completed bloodwork and a skin scrape test - it was shown that she has depleted kidney levels that could be indicative of an autoimmune disease such as Cushing's that could have been the cause of the onset of her allergies, alternatively, being on a loading dose for an extended period may have caused issues with her kidneys. She was given an injection of Cytopoint, prescribed antibiotics and medicated shampoo through her new vet, she is being assessed for further work up related to her kidneys at a 2 wk follow up appointment. She is now 90% better that she is off of the Apoquel and was given this new course of treatment. Her new vet helped my dog more in 1 visit then this office did over the course of 4 months. I feel my concerns here were not taken seriously. I am upset that no labs were ever offered to me or even suggested and when I voiced concerns that she wasn't improving, I was only provided with advice from the vet tech vs being offered an opportunity to speak with, or schedule my dog with the vet for a follow-up appointment. I feel so disheartened that my sweet, senior dog has experienced 4 months of sleepless nights, restlessness and discomfort during the final years of her life - I am angry that because tests were never completed, my dog has potentially gone 4 months without treatment for her kidney issue. I am scared and disappointed in myself for putting my trust into this office due to now finding out my dog has kidney problems and potentially an auto-immune disease. I almost never write reviews, nevermind this lengthy but want other pet parents to seriously consider going to this office for the care of their animal."
"Dr. Saxon and the vet tech that works here are very good to my two Morkies. The vets here were not just wanting to give them shots to get their job over with, but they were petting my puppies and treating them as if they were their own. Even offered them treats, although my dogs weren't too interested. They were even willing to take in my elder cat who hasn't been seen by a vet in a few years. My other cat was too scared to get into the crate to attend her appointment, but they were understanding about her not coming in. I do plan on going back with my five year old cat to get checked and update on rabies. This is a very good vet friendly place for getting your pet updated on shots, surgery for getting spayed or neutered, and grabbing Nexguard medication's or other flea & tick requirements. It's very clean inside."
"Dr. Saxon is an amazing veterinarian. Honest, compassionate, and extremely dedicated to the well-being of your beloved pets. She is honest and caring. When you call for any reason, you always speak to somebody that you know, and they know you and you’re pet. The vet technicians are outstanding, they go above and beyond to answer any questions or concerns you may have. they are reassuring and well educated. Dr. Saxon and her team are overall amazing. If you are looking to take your fur babies to a great Vet hospital I Highly recommend DVH. They are excellent and did I mention the office is extremely clean! I would never take my pets to any one other than Dr. Saxon"
"I love DVH and I love Dr. Saxon, she just struck me as caring Vet from the first time she walked into the room and I am VERY picking about a Vet just as I am about my own Doctor. Of course my "Maximus" doesn't really care for any of it, but he knows I'm doing what's best for him and only want the best attending to him. Trust is a huge issue with me and I feel I can trust DVH with my best friend, but if that trust were ever gone, then so would we be. Everyone there is very nice and pleasant, from front deck to Vet."
