Founded in 1974 by Mother Shaun Vergauwen, FSE, the Franciscan Life Center has grown from a small counseling agency to a comprehensive center serving over 1,500 individuals and families each month. Through the dedication of the Franciscan Sisters and the support of volunteers, the center continues to provide hope and healing to those in need, following the example set by Saint Francis of Assisi.

I truly believe that the entire staff goes out of their way to help the patients with any issues that are discussed! "I used to be a patient of the FL Center. I was in college abroad, and I would have appointments every 6 months when I was home. I did this for 5 years. When I graduated and came back full time to CT, I tried to make an appointment, but I was told that I had been dropped as a patient, since I hadn't had an appointment in 3 months. As I said, I would make an appointment every time I came back from Europe about every *6* months (something that my APRN, my counselor, and the receptionist were all aware of). I was told they couldn't reintake me because my APRN had been pulled away to a leadership role within the Franciscans, and they were short staffed. I had been trying to find a place I was comfortable with, when 2 years later (August 2018), I decided to try the Franciscan Life Center again. This time they were taking new patients. I finished the intake process in early October, but never received a call to schedule an appointment. When I finally called them after waiting, I was told that I had basically been overlooked, and now they were not taking new patients. It really sucks especially when you're depressed, suicidal, and have to fight your inner demons to convince yourself that you are worthy enough to have help. I have never felt so unwanted/worthless by a mental health professional or office."
