"So I’m in a tough place here. I absolutely cannot recommend the detox program with Rushford enough. They’re kind, caring and make sure that you’re never uncomfortable. They treat you like an individual and not just another person in line. They care, they want to see you succeed. Unfortunately I fell through the cracks which is no fault of there’s. I just have to be kinda sorta homeless between my discharge and when I get into a 30+ day program. From the nurses, clinicians, cafeteria workers and everything else. This place truly cares about you succeeding and making sure that you, personally are OK"
"My brothers ended up here two weeks ago. As he has special needs, I wanted to speak to his clinician, not to get information about his treatment plan, although I know he always signs the release for them to speak to me as I am his only family, but more to give them background on his life up until this point, as we all know addiction can cause people to be less than honest and only share so much. I have literally left 6 messages so far and no returned phone calls. I called the last place he was at to see what I should do, they told me to insist on speaking to a director and they gave me a phone number, I left a message at 10AM received a call back at 5:00PM and the person was less than pleasant, I apparently called a different location and she wanted to give me the number for Middletown, no thank you already have it, can't you get a message to the right person? You after all are within the organization when I asked for that, I got a huge sigh and an okay let me just take care of that for you with such ATTITUDE!! 24 hours and still no phone call. When I went to visit I had issues as well, I got caught in traffic and tried calling to let them know and left once again 6 messages, not call back or anything. When I got there door was locked and a note on it saying I would have to wait till next visiting slot. When we visited, an employee sat in the room we were in the entire time, is that really necessary I feel as though it's an invasion of privacy. Before I left I expressed my concerns and once again asked for a message to be relayed and also was questioning if I could bring a birthday cake and gifts at our next visit as the day after is his birthday I was told they would find out...no word. My concern is my brother is "special needs" and has addiction issues and if I am being ignored so to speak, how are they treating him?!? Wouldn't it be helpful to talk to his only family for insight? Apparently not. Just confused."
"After completing the detox and inpatient program myself, I would not recommend this place for recovery. Detox was a good program but the inpatient program leaves much to be desired. You go to the staff about concerns about the room conditions as I had bed bugs and they tried to convince me they weren't bed bugs and I was exaggerating. I'm talking to my father about a bad day I was having and was trying to stay in the program and a staff member was basically provoking me to leave in the morning. Very unprofessional and hindering for someone trying to recover and having to stress about situations that shouldn't have been an issue in the first place. Me and many other residents has had our items lost and missing on numerous occasions. When I was discharged, they even gave me items that weren't even mine and the process to find them if they even could was a headache. Some of the staff were great and the sessions, although repetitive did help in ways but overall would not advise going to the facility. Hopefully in time they heed out these issues and work on their structure so these issues will not be a problem in the future for recovering addicts"
"This place is a joke. Inexperienced, unprofessional and disrespectful. The way they run this place is a disservice and dangerous to people trying to get help. I am willing and ready to get sober for the first time in many years. Rushford strung me along for 4 days. They promised me a bed 3 days in a row and setup a time for me to come in, only to have them cancel 2 hours before I was supposed to be there. They did this 3 days in a row. Then on the 4th day I got in. I showed up at 9am. They took all my stuff, I did all the screenings and everything seemed good to go. Then I met with a nurse and spent an hour answering her questions. Then she left saying she had to submit everything. I waited another hour, only for her to come back and tell me the medical director determined they weren't able to accept me because I possibly had ascites (a very common symptom in alcoholics where youre basically extremely bloated) Are you kidding me!? They're a medical detox, part of Hartford Hospital and they can't handle this. Plus they wasted 4 days that I could've been admitted somewhere else. Im seriously considering hiring an attorney."
"The CSA staff, aside from Joe who was fired shortly after I left, do the best the can with what they have. My clinician and her co-workers helped me in my transition adequately and addressed any concerns I had. My main issues are the quality of food is atrocious unless you have unhealthy eating habits to begin with, and the mattresses on the men's floor are completely unacceptable and thoroughly used. All in all, homeless people will tell you this place is incredible - it's all relative to the life you had before you went in and the level of self-respect you carry throughout your active addiction. I would recommend it to anyone with husky d insurance as it is completely free of cost."
